-!SPOILERS!-

So, we’re going to the Aziza!

Colin, pls, I beg of you, PIPE DOWN! I swear he decides to speak up at the most inconvenient times.

Does Dèmi have to die? Surely not. We can’t lose our MC in section three!!!

Wow ok, since saving Dèmi the Aziza have had no new babies born, even the Queen lost her child. It’s that revelation that leads to Dèmi agreeing. She’s willing to be sacrificed but she needs a few days first.

Hooooooold on, they’re not seeking her life? They taught Dèmi their ways while she healed and they see her as one of them now, they’re asking her to pledge to defend them. That’s better than dying. Kind of ominous though. What’s coming?

Interesting development… Colin now knows that Jonas was involved in Dèmi’s mothers death.

What’s even more interesting is Ayaba’s warning about the men… One is going to bring sadness and despair and one will bring death… Colin’s gonna reach his own death if he doesn’t stop running his mouth. Anyway, the jealousy and the angst between this lot? INTENSE!

Where can I buy my own gwylfin? I need to know! Ogié is adorableeeee!

Nooo the gwylfin are even trying to protect them from the soldiers. They’re too good for this world.

Not only do they have 3 days left to complete Ekwensi’s mission, but there’s missing posters of Jonas about. Ohhh dear.

At least when they escape the soldiers and Jonas’s face is smeared with mud… one of Ekwensi’s men comes to greet them.

What a freaky chapter. Ekwensi is a skin-walker, Etera is about to execute his own wife and wants Dèmi to stop her… I’m shook.

I’m not sure about this plan. Dèmi is going to act as decoy for someone who’s due to be slaughtered… A lil risky, no?

Etera clearly doesn’t know Dèmi enough to get her to do this cause naturally, she won’t leave anyone behind to be slaughtered. The extra fight of trying to take everyone with her is a strain she didn’t need though. The time spent trying to get everyone out leads to her being caught by none other than Mari. This gal can’t catch a break!

“If Yetu hadn’t betrayed me I could have been your mother too.” were they together? That must have been some betrayal for Mari to be happy with trying to kill her once prospective child…

It all goes wrong, not that it was ever really going right, but thankfully Colin and Jonas arrive not a minute too late. Dèmi tells Jonas if he frees her from the iron shackles than they’ll be even. No debts. Do it Jonas!!!

Mari knows Dèmi’s father too… I’m desperate to get more info on this cause this all feels big. Nana and Will are here! My relief that Dèmi has two more people here on her side knows no bounds. It’s tricky though cause Colin’s unreliable magic is what’s supposed to get them all back out. Can he do it?

Did… did Ekwensi just purposely sacrifice Etera? What does he MEAN by his part? So much is happening!!!

Speaking of plot twists and so much happening… silvery blue sparks emerging from Jonas’s fingers… someone has not been completely honest!

He’s an iron-blood, just like Dèmi’s father…

Nope. I’m not ok. Absolutely sobbing at Cree sacrificing herself, but also astonished at her power. 😭😭

Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
What do you think Dèmi will do from here?

This was such an epic section!! I can’t wait to read more with you all tomorrow, see you then!

  1. Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
    – 🤯 did not see it coming at all. Interested to learn the truth about Demis father and more about his and Jonas’s magic.

What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
    – possibly lovers or maybe sisters?

What do you think Dèmi will do from here?
    – I have no idea but maybe she’ll rethink her plan for Jonas now she knows about his magic. Makes me wonder if Ekwensi knows.

  2. You know, a lot of this book seems to be Démi saving/trying to save kids from horrible situations. I get its a good way to show your character is selfless, but it’s honestly maybe happening a bit too much lmao.

Also, structure wise I’m not loving this book. I don’t know if I’m just not in the right headspace to be paying enough attention, but it feels like big chunks of narrative that should be there to build up the world and the characters just… aren’t. There’s a lot of telling instead of showing, and I dont love it.

Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
No, but only because I’m barely following the magic system as a whole 😅 I did guess he had a power, since his mum did? Does? but I think there should have been a bit early on where Démi laid out all the different kinds of Magic and why Iron-Blood was so rare so we could build up suspense before the reveal. It kind of felt like instead he was revealed to have it pretty quick after I’d even learned it was a thing. Did I forget an earlier mention? I have a very bad memory so thats not impossible, I guess.

What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
    Harold, they’re lesbians.

(Honestly though, don’t love that the only definitely queer character so far is maliciously evil, and the other one who might be queer died in basically the prologue… that’s kind of bothering me, won’t lie. I hope other queer characters are introduced to make up for it)

What do you think Dèmi will do from here?
    Probably save another kid, lol.

But seriously, I expect a big honest and open heart to heart is coming with Jonas in light of the trauma they just went through.

  3. Oh! Also I’ll get the photo posted tomorrow afternoon. My handle on Instagram is @brincollects

  4. Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
Not at all! I’m still a little confused by the different forms of magic but I wasn’t really expecting him to have any.

What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
Possibly lovers! Or maybe she was involved with Dèmi’s father (or maybe even a polyamory situation between all three of them?)

What do you think Dèmi will do from here?
There’s definitely a big conversation coming up between her and Jonas, maybe with some more revelations.

  5. 1. Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
Not at all! I do believe it’s via his mother that he has powers

    2. What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
Mari and Dèmi’s mother were together at some point and were going to raise Dèmi together

    3. What do you think Dèmi will do from here?
    I’ve got no clue

Also entered the giveaway via my Bookstagram account @lisashelves

  6. Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?
Yes, but only because I think he’s Demi’s mate! It must come from his mother’s side!

What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?
Maybe they were lovers, not just friends? Or maybe she was romantically involved with her dad too?

What do you think Dèmi will do from here?
I’m not sure entirely, she doesn’t have time to settle in the people she rescued so she’ll have to leave that to Will and Nana. I’d imagine she’ll continue her mission but I’m still not convinced she’ll hand Jonas over, especially not now she knows he’s an iron-blood!

This is such a beautiful editon and the story is captivating

  8. Did you guess at Jonas being iron-blood?

I didn’t guess at him being iron blood but the flash back of realization from when her mother wouldn’t let her use her magic to help heal Jonas back in the day knowing it would drain her was cool I love when stories bring back small details that have so much meaning!

What do you think Mari meant when she said she could’ve been Dèmi’s mother?

I’m hoping to find out! Maybe a past lover?

What do you think Dèmi will do from here?

I think Jonas excites demi and she’s going back for him. He seems to want to see change in the world they live in and maybe demi is just who he needs by his side to make it happen

  9. I had NO idea that Jonas would have any kind of powers. That was truly left field, I thought he was just interested in magic cause it fascinated him not that he was trying to understand it himself. Who in the world is his Mother?!? Is she also Olorun? In general though I am quite lost with this world and magic system. I guess iron-bloods are supposed to be rare and a big deal but there were two in this group for a moment, Jonas and Etera, and now we know her Dad is one as well.

My guess is Mari, Yetu and Demi’s Dad were poly before all the murder happened. How did he accomplish that by the way? They talk about Demi’s father like he might be alive, but magic is supposed to have a heavy cost for killing and he killed hundreds, but also Ekwensi made it sound like that was all fabricated.
I dont know but Mari is awful and I need her to stop literally appearing out of the blue.

I feel like Demi is gonna have a night to process how royally she screwed up, talk with Jonas, maybe catch up with her foster parents then be thrown right back into the chaos. It feels like never ending disasters around her.

  10. 1) I didn’t guess at Jonas being iron-blood, but I think that’s because I still don’t fully understand what that is because I’m having serious trouble following this crazy magic system. But it felt like the concept of iron-bloods was thrown in conveniently just prior to the revelation, so I’m not surprised. I think it would have felt like a more natural transition and surprising twist if the concept was introduced earlier in the story.

    2) I honestly didn’t think there was much merit to this statement. I figured it was off-hand comment about how close the two women were as friends before the war. But since it’s being brought up here and highlighted, I assume it’s going to be important later. Maybe they were a romantic couple prior to Dèmi’s mother finding her true mate.

    3) I have no predictions. The plot has been incredibly difficult for me to follow and I am constantly confused. This story does not make a whole lot of sense to me. I’ll stick it out and finish the book since I came this far, but I’m honestly not super interested in what will happen next.

I entered the giveaway. My Instagram handle is @nymphie_reads. Thank you for the opportunity.
