Hey fairies,

Welcome to day 6 of our readalong for our November Adult featured book: Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare.

I hope you’re all enjoying the book so far! I am so excited to see what happens in todays chapters! Hopefully nothing too shocking!

Today we’re reading from chapter 20 to the end of chapter 23. Let’s dive right in!

Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare from the chapter 20 to the end of chapter 23. Please only read on if you have finished this section!

-!SPOILERS!-

I can’t believe Kel didn’t get caught pretending to be Conor, but luckily he got away with it.

Conor has to marry Luisa otherwise there will be a war with Sarthe, he seems so defeated about it, poor baby Conor.

Lin went to go check on Mayesh after what happened with the Princess, she is on her way to forgiving him.

She wants to be the next Counselor but she is unsure of how she feels about seeing Conor everyday, I think she can do it.

Lin is going to a party on the Hill with everyone!

I love that the Gods can change their gender!

Lusia is very sweet and definitely has a crush on Conor!

I can’t believe the courtesans are at the party where a child is present, Anotonetta has come to save the day with distracting Luisa!

Conor’s plan is just to get high and drunk to forget the whole ordeal, such a spoiled boy at times.

Lin has arrived and she looks so good, I feel like this is her Cinderella moment!

Maybe Conor does hate Lin as why is he looking her like that, unless he doesn’t want to find her attractive?

Mayesh has just left Lin to talk to people alone with no introductions, at least Kel came to talk to her unlike Conor.

These people are awful they are trying to embarrass Luisa by making her dance, but Lin is taking her place! She had a vision of the past whilst dancing, I find the past so interesting.

Conor and Lin arguing makes me so happy, like yes give me enemies to lovers.

They kissed!!! but they don’t want to like each other. I can’t with the pining.

Antonetta is so smart she only wanted to marry Conor so she could have the silk Charter.

All I want is for Kel and Antonetta to kiss as I love her so much and she kept the ring he made her years ago in her locket.

I can’t believe Kel is being cornered again about trying to go behind Conor’s back.

The Ashkari Goddess killed her lover, I don’t like this foreshadowing.

Kel’s heart stopped thinking that Lin slept with Conor? I am intrigued! But he slept with Silla who Kel typically goes to and has some sort of relationship with.

Conor has tried to amends with Luisa by taking her to the gardens after the night of embarrassment for her.

Excuse me Conor has arrived at Lin’s house, why is he here after being mean the night before.

The joke about Oren had me laughing out loud.

Conor has gifted Lin the book she has been looking for, I doubt it is just to get out of his debt to her. He tell’s her he thinks of her, why did they not kiss there is too much tension.

Kel has gone to find Prosper Beck but has left Castellane, I wonder why. He left a warning for Kel that the Hill will bleed, that is a few warnings now of danger.

He is no longer working for the Ragpicker King but I think he will go back.

I can’t believe that Fausten is being thrown off the cliff and the King is apparently sick and needs medicine that only he can make.

Is Conor smiling and happy as he does not feel indebted to Lin?

Lin has tried to bind herself to the Source-Stone, but got distracted by Mariam becoming very ill.

Wait did she kind of heal Mariam, please say yes I don’t think I can deal with anyone dying.

The Maharam has gone through Lin’s things how dare he and Oren I do not like him at all. He want’s her exiled luckily Mayesh came to her rescue!

Now Lin is being warned away from Conor for being dangerous what is happening.

Why is there so many warnings in this section, it is getting me worried.

Do you ship Kel and Antonetta?
Do you think Conor is dangerous towards Lin?
Who is your most disliked character?

I am super excited to see how the story ends, see you for the final day tomorrow!

Love,
Emily

Omg Lin saving Luisa and dancing in front of everyone. Conor not stopping her because he wanted to see her dance. Lin and Conor kissed! But it wasn’t the big romantic kiss I was hoping for. She hates him but also can’t stop thinking about him.

Antonette is clearly in love with Kel and Kel clearly has feelings for her as well. But why does it feel like they might not actually be endgame? Antonette still having the ring. I was not expecting for Kel to actually steal it and open it. It feels like a big invasion of privacy. But why did Beck want it? And what happened to him?

Oooh Conor went to Lin to pay his debt (sure, we all absolutely believe that’s his only reason) and he gave her the book she was looking for. But let’s be real, he has not forgotten about her.

I must say, from the first couple of chapters I was expecting for Merren and Ji-An to play a bigger part in the story, but I feel like they were barely present (especially Merren).

I got so excited about Lin finally having the book and now it has already been confiscated.

The King is honestly the scariest character.

Can’t believe we’re almost at the end. I’m loving this books so much!

Okay, there’s like about 70 pages left and the plot just keeps thickening! Bet there’s a huge cliffhanger that will leave me reeling.

    I ship Kel/Lin. πŸ’”

I don’t know what Conor wants with Lin, and apparently, neither does he. Conor might be inadvertently dangerous to Lin, but I don’t think he would hurt her on purpose.

I really dislike Oren, he is very petty.

I need to keep reading to know what happens but at the same time it’s like midnight and I need to go to sleep πŸ™

Now that they’ve had more interactions I do ship Kel and Antonetta. I don’t see yet how it could work though, for now at least. There is much that Antonetta needs to learn about Kel first since she knows so little of the real him. But there are signs that Antonetta still likes Kel and obviously Kel likes her so I am intrigued to see how this will play out (if it will even play out). I don’t know how many books are planned in this series but it may very well be that someone else will be endgame for Kel. I just want him to be with somebody who gets him, who he really is and who Kel can be open with. He deserves everything!

I don’t think that Conor is dangerous towards Lin but I think he makes her life more dangerous. Just by visiting her in her apartment made the Maharam angry and nobody would obviously believe Lin that the prince came to visit himself. But Conor seems to be dangerous in general, he isn’t acting like it most of the time but if he wants, he can be terrifying I guess.

It’s tough to decide who is my most disliked character. I didn’t like Fausten but fortunately he is no more. I really don’t like Charlon. The King is also high up on the list. The Maharam isn’t the greatest either. I don’t think I can pick just one.

I can’t believe Conor slept with Silla. Bro code violated.

I am so here for Kel and Antonetta!! Their history has so many “so close” moments of their true feelings being revealed, I can’t wait for it to finally happen!
I don’t think Conor is dangerous towards Lin. If anything, he’s a bit naΓ―ve towards her. He doesn’t know what he’s doing because he has actual feelings for her and this is new ground for him.
I don’t like Charlon Roverge. He is so shady and rude! I don’t like how he treats Antonetta when she isn’t present. He has ulterior motives.

    • Emily

The Bro Code was definitely violated but I think he did that as she has red hair like Lin!

  • Andrea

Ooooooo this was a good section, I’m fine with Kel and Antonetta but it seems they won’t end up together. I just need an enemies to lovers between Lin and Conor!

Conor can be dangerous to Lin but I think it’s because of the Ashkar being discriminated against, and his general selfishness. He would never be able to save her if she needed it (I don’t think she’ll need him though) and it seems that he wouldn’t even attempt to because he isn’t his own person. He clearly has feelings for her.

I don’t really like Antonetta or the king. Kel and Lin are my people.

    I’m buying book 2 so quickly 😭

  • Ellie Garner

Mmmmm no. I ship Kel, Conor and Lin as a thrupple a little bit haha. I don’t like Antoinette very much, she seems to be playing games. I think Kel could do better.

I feel like being Prince wouldn’t be a walk in the park so I wouldn’t blame him being kinda angry sometimes but he shouldn’t take it out on Lin. I don’t really get his problem πŸ˜’

I don’t like the Queen very much. She’s super mean to Kel who is just trying to be there for Conor, and protect him.

There are too few pages left for how much there is still to resolve and I’m dreading a cliffhanger.

The party scene really reminded me how awful nobles in this book are (and that sometimes includes Conor?) but I loved the tension between Conor and Lin, it’s enemies to lovers done right. I still don’t like the idea of Kel and Antonetta; it seems to me Kel likes the idea of the old Antonetta and of a past where everything was much simpler more than he actually likes her. I’d rather see Antonetta be happy alone, with her sword lessons and the Silk charter. She’s much less of a boring character when her mother’s not included in the picture.

Lin managing to partially heal Mariam was the sweetest thing, I think she could actually do it if she finds a strong enough magical source. And then of course the Maharam had to ruin everything. But I’m sure Lin will find a way around it.

With Fausten dead and Beck gone, all the main villains are now out of the picture, so I hope next will come the reveal of the actual big bad who orchestrated everything behind the scenes. There are a ton of dislikeable characters (I hate Oren with a passion for how he treats Lin) but my bet is still on one of the Charter families to be behind it all. I can’t wait to see how this book ends!

  • Amelia Jayne

Now I’ve really got close to the end I can’t stop. I just feel like there’s going to be some MAJOR cliff hangers that I’m not ready for.

I really like the idea of Kel and Antonetta together. I feel like Conor sleeping with Silla just created tension between the lads but maybe that will push Kel towards Antonetta.

I don’t really think Conor is dangerous for Lin. I think he adds danger to her life sure (forbidden love etc) but I kinda love that for her.

No idea who is my most disliked character. I get really bitchy vibes from Vienne and idk I feel like shes just going to cause drama somewhere down the line. Not sure if shes my most hated character though. I’m not really a fan of any of the charter families tbh….

    1. Do you ship Kel and Antonetta?
No haha, I think they work better as friends and not as lovers. I still ship Kel with Merren!

    2. Do you think Conor is dangerous towards Lin?
    Not really

    3. Who is your most disliked character?
Oren is just a jealous prick and most of the nobels are awful

  • Alex Shaffer

Do you ship Kel and Antonetta?
I don’t think Kel and Antonetta will work out. He desperately wants to someone to know who he really
Is as him, not as the princes cousin. So even if they tried to be together, I don’t know if it would work. Unless of course, Antonetta knew who he was the entire time. But there haven’t been any hints on that

Do you think Conor is dangerous towards Lin?
I kind of agree with Lin’s grandfather. I think he does things not realizing that some situations are delicate. Like the fact that Lin is askar. However, I love their tension.

Who is your most disliked character?
The king probably. I don’t buy into the star seeing prophecy stuff. In this particular world, it makes me seem crazy.

  • susy34633

Ok, that was an awful party, and the intention to show Sarth what expected princess Louisa was cruel. I like the way Antonetta took care of the princess, but Lin for the rescue was awesome.
Kel and Antonetta would be a lovely story, but I guess there is too much separating them, and I’m expecting a lot of twists there.
Connor says he has forgotten Lin, but has he? And now she’s in trouble in the Sault thanks to him… dangerous indeed!
I hate the king, he is starting to show his true colours, and they are very dark! The man is cruel, vicious, and definitely hiding some major information.
We are almost at the end, and I’m scared of the cliffhanger we will most likely be left with! xD
