Hey fairy friends!

Welcome to our seventh and final day of Sword Catcher readalong! We are coming to the end of this book but we are going to be seeing th Goddess festival and the dinner for the Princess!

Today we’re reading from chapter 24 to the end of the book, let’s jump straight in!

Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare, from chapter 24 to the end of the book. Please only read on if you’ve finished Sword Catcher!

-!SPOILERS!-

The Source-Stone is no longer working I wonder if by healing Mariam it needs more magic.

Conor has come to see Lin again!! He is obsessed but wait he is asking about madness which his father might have.

He say’s he only thinks of her still but why does she have to call him broken that is so mean.

I can’t believe Conor is not going to the banquet and Kel has to take his place.

Antonetta and Conor have a secret but about what. Artal Gremont can not be allowed to be allowed to marry her, he is awful.

Kel pretending to be Conor nearly kissed her!!!

Why is the older Gremont wanting to talk to Conor about trust?

I love that Vienne is telling Conor off hahah, reminds me of Lin.

Conor has arrived but he is drunk please don’t embarrass yourself Conor. Wait they are swapping places again!

The castle is under attack, I don’t want anyone to get hurt.

Lin is thinking of Conor whilst at the Goddess festival I love it.

Ew Oren asked Lin to dance, I can’t believe he has asked her again to marry him and he think he does everything for her benefit. Conor doesn’t want to change her so why does Oren.

Wait the girls just get asked if they are the Goddess returned?

Lin said yeh she is!!! EXCUSE ME

Kel is trying to save Conor as he is destined to do, but he has moved from his position.

I love that the Charter families can defend themselves.

Wait Luisa has just been shot by a crossbolt and has died instanly.

House Aurelain is going to fall?

Vienne is so badass with her fighting skills she has just killed so many people.

Another warning from Gremont that Conor should not trust anyone because the Grey Serpent will come?

Kel steps in front of Conor to save him but the King saves him instead by killing Vienne.

Sarthe is going to come for war now.

Lin is so smart for using the ships burning to declare she is the Goddess.

Jolivet wants Kel to let him know all the information about the Ragpicker King.

I feel like Kel may die as there is too much speak about him dying as the Sword Catcher.

These last few chapters have been a whirlwind!

What did you think about Sword Catcher overall?
Any theories about who is trying to take House Aurelian Down?
Any theories for book two Ragpicker Kind?

I loved this one so much! Thank you all for joining us for another FairyLoot readalong, we’ll see you all very soon for the next one!

Love,
Emily

First of all, thank you so much for the readalong. I enjoyed reading your comments and joining this helped me get out of my reader’s block.

Conor came back and no he hasn’t forgotten Lin. He can’t stop thinking about her. I’m full on shipping no one will stop me now.

Antonetta totally knows it’s Kel and not Conor at the party. But what? She is to get engaged to Artal Gremont? Nope! Hope Merren will poison him asap.

And what? So many things are happening omg! Lin saying she’s the goddess m, Luisa getting killed (poor child). Who’s the assassin?

And what is going on with the king seemingly having super strength?

Conor feeling guilty because of the choices he made. He messed up yes, but it’s not all on him for sure.

Ooooh Lin is a mastermind. That is such a smart plan. But she also feels guilty. Can Conor and Lin just meet and comfort each other?

So Jolivet knew Kel went to Ragoicker King and wants to use that to discover who wants to destroy the Aurelian family.

And now Kel is going to work with the Ragoicker King.

I have so many questions! How can I survive waiting for the next book?

Also loved the bonus content and now I’m back at shipping Merren and Kel.

What did you think about Sword Catcher overall? I loved it, it started slow but I’m obsessed now
Any theories about who is trying to take House Aurelian Down? I think there are many options considering they’re not very loved. Anti monarchist, enemies from other countries, any of the rich families…
Any theories for book two Ragpicker Kind? I don’t think Vienne is really dead. I think Lin does actually have the magic from the goddess and that she will slowly discover it, I feel like something will happen between Kel and Conor that will separate them and maybe put them in danger

    • Emily

I do agree that Lin might somehow be linked to the Goddess now she has the stone!

  • Ellie Garner

I love it so much! Which is good because I went absolutely overboard and bought like 5 different editions of it, maybe more πŸ˜… I think it’s in my top three favourites of the year.

Honestly I’m not sure.. maybe Conor’s dodgy friend? I’ve already forgotten his name cause I didn’t like him hahahaha.

Literally none, I have no idea what’s going to happen next. Maybe Lin will figure out how to imbue the stone? Crazy.

I loved this book. Can’t wait to see where book 2 goes because things blew up a bit at the end.

  • Kdavey

Wow what an ending! That last 5% was wild – I am curious to see what happens next!

I loved this book very much! It had many turns I didn’t guess and the world was very interesting! I haven’t read anything else by Cassandra Clare but I have been thinking about reading her books for a long time so I’ll probably get into them soon. The King is honestly terrifying, I was so sad for Luisa and Vienne. They deserved better. The book was good, the beginning was a bit tough to get into but afterwards it flew by so fast. I can’t wait to see what happens to Lin now that she declared she was the Goddess. I also can’t wait to see Roverges’ reaction after learning that all their ships have been destroyed.

I don’t really have any theories who is trying to take down House Arelian. It is probably one of the Charter families I guess, they have quite a lot of power and usually these kinds of people want to gain even more power so maybe one of them. I don’t think it was someone outside the Hill who is behind the attack. They definitely used lower class people for the attack and some other tasks but the mastermind is someone else for sure.

Just to go from the name, book two will definitely include more of the Ragpicker King. Especially now when Kel has agreed to work with him, he will have a bigger role for sure. I hope we even get some chapters from his POV, that would be so cool! Again, I have no idea how many books are planned for this series but maybe we’ll learn who is behind the attacks and wants to take down House Aurelian. Probably there’ll be more romance as well? Anyway I can’t wait for book two!

Oh.My.God. I haven’t been so shocked by an ending ever since I read Immortal Longings. Luisa’s death (and then Vienne’s), Lin’s mad plan, that mysterious assassin. There are so many questions left to answer but the next book is sooo faar aawaay😭.

That being said, I enjoyed Sword Catcher way way more than I thought I would. Court intrigue books are not usually my type, but Sword Catcher managed to capture my attention flawlessly. I’m now rooting for Kel, for Lin, for Conor, and everything is so tangled up I can’t see a way out of the woods for everyone.

In the last post I’ve mentioned that it must haven been one of the Charter families behind the whole thing, but after Gremont mentioned someone asked him to betray the Aurelians, I think there’s someone higher up, using the Charter families to orchestrate chaos. I wonder if it’s simply politics or if those warnings of danger from the stars actually meant something.

Overall, it was a great read, 4 stars from me. I also wanted to add that it was great to have a 7-day readalong since this book was longer, it really helped me concentrate on every detail instead of rushing through it. Can’t wait for the next readalong!

    1. What did you think about Sword Catcher overall?
Not as good as I’d expected to be honest. The beginning was just a bit to much of an info dump to really get into it and the ending did feel a bit rushed with a lot happenening in the last few pages. The pacing and worldbuilding could’ve been balanced better I believe
The two “bad guys” were already gone and we still have no clue who is the actual danger. I would’ve liked to know a bit more to get me more excited for the sequel.
    Overall 4/5 stars

    2. Any theories about who is trying to take House Aurelian Down?
    Not a clue

    3. Any theories for book two Ragpicker Kind?
I just hope there will be some romance!

Overall I gave Sword Catcher a 4 Stars. It feels like not a lot happened but also a lot happened. I’m not sure how to describe what I mean. There was a lot of world building that felt like a lot of information at times… But it has got me really excited for book 2!! I feel like now we have had all the background it will be super action packed!

I wanted there to be more romance too! I really want to see how Conor and Lins relationship progresses! I’m still rooting for them even though she called him broken. I also feel like there’s a lot more to Kel and Antonettas story. Theres a big secret between her and Conor which I’m so intrigued to find out. Plus I definitely think theres more to know about the grass ring and the locket.

In terms of who is trying to take down House Aurelian, my money is on Antonettas mother. She was so bitter about Conors engagement to Luisa so I wouldn’t be surprised. Plus with Antonettas engagement to Artal Gremont, then Old Gremont saying trust no one and then getting killed, I think that whole family is sus tbh…

My theory for the Ragpicker king is that someone who we’ve met is going to ‘inherit’ the title. I did read that right? Thats a thing… In the information overload? If it is, I think it might be Kel. I feel like he could be the joining force between the people of Castlellane and the Charter Families in the war that’s brewing. I feel like Kel might die as the Sword Catcher, as a lot of emphasis was put on that, and maybe be reborn as the Ragpicker King… Just a conspiracy theory based on the titles of the two books…

There is SO much about Sword Catcher. The world building, the amount of characters, and the different plots, just wow! I REALLY enjoyed this read a long to help with my thoughts and understanding of the book. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I will say the ending has me wanting book 2 very much.

I think it’s another Charter family plotting to take down House Aurelian. As to which Charter Family? No idea.

I hope Book 2, The Ragpicker King, will have more romance between Lin and Conor, and Antonette and Kel. I think we will learn more about the King, Conor’s dad, and his past. More political intrigue!

  • Alex Shaffer

What did you think about Sword Catcher overall?
Overall, I thought the book was good. Personally, I think I could have been a little shorter. But I did feel as though I dived into the world.

Any theories about who is trying to take House Aurelian Down?
I think it’s one of the charter families. Maybe Ana’s mom? I’m not sure. But I’m sure we’ve already met this person.

Any theories for book two Ragpicker Kind?
I’m hoping there’s more romance. And Kel still hasn’t β€œbetrayed” Conor. So that has to happen. There’s probably going to be a lot more about the king and his purpose or madness or whatever. Also the war with the neighboring country.

Overall, not bad. I’m excited for book 2

I really enjoyed this book. I’m a fan of Cassandra Clare and it did not disappoint.
After the attack Connor finally feels the weigh of his actions, thinking maybe Lin is right. A war will come to his house, but by whom I have no idea.
Very curious about Gremont and what he knew, no one thought much about him before.
Poor Louisa, such a cruel end, and to her guard as well. What kind of power has the King to be able to hold blade and throw someone like that and kill them? Very suspicious and concerning.
Jolivet agreeing with Kel’s decision to cooperate with the Ragpicker King was a nice surprise, the way he could read him so well. The next book is called the Ragpicker King so that partnership will be very interesting to explore.
Lin claimed to be the Goddess! OMG!!! It is true that she has her stone, and the dreams seem to indicate some relation between them, but I don’t know the full extent of the consequences of her acclamation, the maharam wasn’t happy.
So, when are we getting the next book? xD
