FairyLoot is hiring! We are looking for a Book Submissions & Review Assistant to join our passionate and creative Book Production team in 2025. Please find the details down below and, if interested, apply via the linked Google form.


As a Book Submissions & Review Assistant, you will work closely with the Book Production team to read and evaluate manuscripts for our subscription boxes and Exclusive Editions. Your insights will help us decide the books we select, ensuring they align with our audience’s tastes and expectations.

Key Responsibilities
πŸ“– Manuscript Reviews:Β Read manuscripts from publishers and assess their suitability for FairyLoot’s subscription boxes and Exclusive Editions.
πŸ“ Detailed Notes & Analysis:Β Document key details such as character descriptions, world-building elements, symbolism, and aesthetic themes.
🎨 Artwork Briefing Support:Β Assist in creating detailed briefs for artists, ensuring that cover and interior artwork align with the manuscript’s themes.
✍️ In-Depth Reviews: Provide comprehensive assessments of manuscripts, including plot, character development, romance, and market potential.
πŸ“š Market Trend Monitoring:Β Stay up to date with current and upcoming book releases, as well as emerging trends in Young Adult, Adult, Romantasy, and Epic Fantasy.
πŸ” Comparative Analysis:Β Research and compare upcoming releases with past successful FairyLoot titles to evaluate potential audience interest.
πŸ“Š Reader Sentiment & Audience Insights:Β Monitor and analyse reader feedback, reviews, and social media trends to understand what resonates with FairyLoot subscribers.
πŸ–₯️ Metadata & Database Management:Β Help maintain an organised system for tracking submission statuses, manuscript notes, and book details.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A passionate and discerning reader with a strong critical eye for evaluating books from both a literary and market perspective.
  • A deep knowledge of the fantasy genre, including YA, Adult, Romantasy, and Epic Fantasy.
  • A keen understanding of FairyLoot’s readership and the types of books that resonate with our community.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and adapt to shifting priorities.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in English Literature or equivalent experience in publishing, bookselling, or literary reviewing.
  • Extensive knowledge of FairyLoot Editions and a reading history that includes previous FairyLoot titles.
  • A strong understanding of book market trends and familiarity with recent releases in the fantasy genre.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Deadline-driven & detail-oriented
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence in expressing opinions, and a willingness to advocate for or against book selections based on detailed analysis.
  • Strong writing & summarisation Skills
  • Proficiency with digital reading platforms, ideally with experience using NetGalley, Edelweiss, or other manuscript-sharing platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or Microsoft Office for organising notes and reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
