Today we’ll be reading from chapter 18 to the end of chapter 25, let’s dive back in!
Please be warned, that the following section will include spoilers for A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene from Chapter 18 to the end of Chapter 25. Please only read on if you have finished this section!

After Fia and Rogan celebrate one of the holidays, they finally discuss what happened 4 years ago! I’ve misjudged Rogan; he’s always been in love with Fia and wanted to cancel his engagement to Eala so he could marry Fia! What a sweetheart!
For all of those years, the Queen lied to Fia, making her believe the worst of Rogan. He wrote her letters that the Queen took, so Fia never learnt of anything; I didn’t see this coming!
Even though it’s all been a big miscommunication between them, Fia tells Rogan they can’t be together, as he’s still betrothed to Eala. Does anyone else feel bad for him?
In Tír na nÓg, Fia’s on her way to try to seduce Irian, but instead finds him battling against a giant wyrm! Instead of watching him die, Fia decides to save him; she battles against the creature and deals the killing blow using the Sky-Sword that Irian throws at her!
Irian can’t heal himself as he’s drained from the battle, so Fia decides to try to heal him herself. As a thank you for saving his life, Irian tells her a story of his childhood. I love that they trade stories!
When Fia retrieves the sword, she debates killing Irian. But she just saved him—that doesn’t make sense?
Irian admits that only the Fair Folk can use the sword, so Fia can use it! Also, he admits that if he dies, then so do all of the maidens, as they’re linked! Instead of keeping the sword, Fia gives it back, but why is Eala annoyed? Fia just potentially saved her life.
Back in the mortal realm, Fia researches the geas and believes that Irian is correct; if he dies, then so do the maidens. There must be a way to unlink them, I wonder if Fia will discover it?
As an act of friendship, Fia shaves Rogan’s face for him, as he doesn’t know how to do it. It’s very intimate, and they end up kissing again! Fia pulls away when Rogan’s distracted by her lack of control over her powers! However, Fia notices drawings of Eala all over Rogan’s walls!
After Fia runs away, Rogan finds her and admits he’s always thinking about her, not Eala,but he doesn’t have a choice in his duty. My heart breaks for them as they can’t be together.
In Tír na nÓg, Irian finds Fia and thanks her for saving his life, in return for saving his life, she wants them to become friends! I can’t wait to see how their ‘friendship’ goes.
My heart hurts for Irian; he admitted that all the other Fair Folk hunted him and his family because they wanted all the wild magic to be free, even though it taints all who use it. The wild magic was used to create the link between Irian and the maidens, but he wishes he could undo it! As he’s the last Sept, the treasure has to be renewed to ensure the magic stays within it, but he must die for it to be renewed!
As a romantic gesture, Rogan takes Fia to the forest, where hundreds of fireflies are in the sky. He admits that he wants her, that’s so sweet! I can’t pick a side in this love triangle! Fia and Rogan keep sneaking around together, but it’ll only end in heartbreak as they can’t be together!
Eala finds Fia in Tír na nÓg, where she admits that she hates her mother and wants them to find the magic together to break the geas, but Fia wants to do things her own way.
Irian finds Fia upset and is annoyed on her behalf! He’s already smitten with her! He admits to her that he’ll only answer her questions with a kiss, but Fia doesn’t kiss him!
Fia and Rogan have a heart-to-heart where she tells him they can’t be together as she has to change herself for him, which isn’t love. He does always seem to flinch away from her magic! They share a final heartbreaking kiss.
We’ve learnt a lot in this section; Irian has to die, Eala seems to want power and Rogan is heartbroken! I can’t wait to learn more like who Fia is!

I have entered, and I started reading it today so I am catching up to you all! 🥰 (also I entered the secret contest hehe my Instagram handle is @wivireads 🤭)

I love these chapters, a lot seems to happen even between the months. Rogan and Fia are so heart broken both of them, that I don’t know how they can be together at some point. Irian feels a bit better fit but he’s dying, unless he gives her the sword willingly so he won’t die and she will be tied to the princesses and then maybe she can set them free. Not sure she could do it, though.
I am heart broken for Roggan and Fia, but also for Irian because he’s dying and he feels so lonely.
Eala feels a lot like her mom, manipulative and very fae in that sense. Asking for favors and such. But I really want to know what’s her true agenda. If she wants to be set free, she would have listend to Fia before getting angry at her.
I feel the same for Rogan and Fia but their relationship will never work! 💜
I am intrigued at how it will turn out, and I’m dreading we won’t know the end game until next book.
I’m pretty sure Fia is going to find a way to save Irian. I think Rogan flinching when she uses her magic is the very trigger to help her sever their physical relationship and allow her to move out on. Her fascination with Irian and now her release of Rogan sets that stage, or so I hope! I’m really hoping for an HEA and not a fairytale tragedy.
I think Eala is cut from the same cloth as her mother and trying to manipulate Fia for her own gains. I think Fia is starting to see that, but at this point she’s still doing the queen’s bidding even knowing her for a cut throat liar who cares only about herself. Hoping Fia wakes up before it’s too late!

I do feel for Rogan, it’s quite heartbreaking and they obviously still care about each other. I noticed that he’s not entirely comfortable with her magic, I wonder if this is a hint that he will never be able to accept Fia fully, as she really is, as her magic is part of her.
I think her magic is pretty cool, excited to see her use it and find out more about what she can do. She also seems to feel a pull towards the Fae world, and to feel more like herself or more free when she’s there.
I sincerely hope Irian doesn’t die as I might throw the book out the window, as pretty as it is! haha
I can see that FIa still feels a sense of loyalty to the Queen and Eala, even after finding out about the lies and the letters. I hope this doesn’t backfire…
I quite like the language in the book – I noticed that the authors uses certain words when describing Fia, like references to plants, which adds an extra layer for me.
I don’t think Rogan will ever accept her fully as he doesn’t like the Folk part of her! 💜

Do you believe Irian will die? – No I think Fia will find a way to stop it and sever the link between him and the maidens. I still think Irian is keeping something from Fia though something about her past and who she is. I think the asking for a kiss will have some deeper meaning also.
Who do you think Fia will help Eala or Irian? – I think she will save Eala from her curse but hoping she doesn’t give her or the mother the sword. I think she will do what is right and that seems to be helping Irian if what he is saying is true.
How are you feeling about Rogan and Fia? – as soon as Rogan said he wished Fia wouldn’t use her magic it put me straight off him. She shouldn’t have to change herself, especially something that probably comes naturally to her.
It was the same moment for me, I don’t like that Rogan doesn’t accept her magic! 💜

I hope not. I think Fia will discover a way to let him live.

I’m really unsure of Eala. I think Fia truly wants to help everyone, but I think Eala will betray her.
How are you feeling about Rogan and Fia?
Rogan is not enough for Fia, he doesn’t accept all of her. Her and her magic. So I hope this time they stay to her words, and remain friends from here on out.
I think somehow Fia is too trusting as she wants to see the good in people! 💜
I feel bad but im super rooting for Irian!! Hes the way better than Rogan imo!! I feel like Rogan is just in love with the idea of Fia, not who she actually isssss
I also dislike Eala too… im getting bad vibes from all the humans. I think she is super manipulative and not telling Fia everything!!
I hope she embraces the Folk part of herself and helps Irian 😭😭😭

Okay i enjoyed this section more than the last two and i finally feel like im getting into it and want to know where the story is going.
Im definitely rooting for Irian. I think Fia will find a way to save him and i really do think Eala will turn out to be the villain because of it.
Im not keen on Rogan either. Hes never going to be right for Fia! Im getting bad vibes from him too.

I think in the end she’s going to help Irian. I feel like Eala is going to end up being a villain.
I feel like Rogan doesn’t understand the struggles that Fia goes through being a changeling since he is a prince. I don’t think they’re the right fit for each other. I want her to end up with Irian.

Well, it figures that the oily Queen Mother intervened to keep Fia isolated, emotionally stunted & dependent. That doesn’t explain how Rogan’s all dreamy & bewitched whenever thinking about/looking at Eala. Well, she’s finally seeing what manipulation Queen Mother has been up to her whole life. Thanks to Rogan for that much at least. The ollphéisht fight. I like that she’s hesitating about following through with her task, that she saved Irian, & that she instinctively backed away from Eala. Ugh. I still don’t like Rogan & his weird zealotry regarding Eala. I did like that Irian kept popping into Fia’s head. The ocean Gentry, the murúcha. The carrion stenched fox-faced barda Gentry, the ollphéisht. I like how Irian & Fia share stories to each other, & I’m feeling more believing of his stories than the humans’. Also, there’d better be a way to save his life, or I’ll riot. Rogan pushes & pushes to have her body, but he doesn’t want all of her, not her Greennark. I bet Irian would never make her feel that she had to reign in any part of her. Ugh. Eala. 😒 Irian just had a “who did this to you” moment. 😍 The tapestries are uncannily similar – will she wear a gown of flames to meet Irian dressed for a party? Emerald green dress. I’m glad she’s finally letting go of Rogan. *It’s about damn time*

1.) I’m hoping she finds away to prevent Irian’s death with those journals from the hidden alcove.
2.) In trying to save Irian’s life, I want her to choose him over the oily Eala even if she does help her & the other swan maidens break their geas because Eala seems like exactly the sort of person to abuse any power she claims.
3.) I’m ready for this nonsense to be over. He doesn’t, has never, fully accepted her for who/what she is, & although he’s been in a tough spot, seems too weak. She’s plenty capable of loving & being loved, but she’s finally admitted that she needs to be loved FULLY (for once) & isn’t accepting less. Good for her!

I will be very upset if Irian dies. I am beginning to love Fia and Irian together. They are learning about each other and getting closer. Irian seems to accept Fia for who she is. Even if this is something that Fia herself is confused about.
Who do you think Fia will help Eala or Irian?
I think Irian will help her. I do not trust Eala. She reminds me too much of her mother, and also I can’t stop thinking about those strange moments in one of the earlier chapters when Eala looked like something else with the fangs and the blood or something. THAT HAD TO MEAN SOMETHING. Plus, I don’t like how Eala is speaking to Fia, especially regarding Rogan.
How are you feeling about Rogan and Fia?
I do not like Rogan and Fia together. It’s very clear that he is not comfortable with the fact that she is not fully human. Maybe once, they were close and it didn’t bother him. But, clearly that isn’t the way now. Maybe he’s so infatuated with her because it’s easy. It’s easy to love someone who was a constant in your childhood for so long. But, they are different people now. And, Rogan is holding on to the past and what he knows. Granted, I do not want him to be with Eala either. At this moment, I don’t like her. Rogan needs to discover who he is, and how he can help his own people. He doesn’t need a wife to figure this out.

I thought this was the best section so far. I think it’s totally understandable that both Rogan and Fia would try to recapture what they had and obviously Rogan doesn’t love Eala and doesn’t want to marry her. I did actually get a little bit choked up when Fia was ending the situationship – both because her reasons were so valid but also I think they did love each other but that doesn’t mean they were right for each other. Things like this always get me.
I’m really not sure about how things will go from here but I don’t think Eala is on the up and up.

Personally i don’t think Irian deserves to be called cruel and ruthless. If anything the queen deserves all those descriptions. Given how Irian has bigger artwork than Rogan, pretty sure he will end up with Fia.
I was not impressed with Rogan at all. He’s nice, but…I feel like Fia is the one carrying the weight of their mission, at least in packing for essentials. Also, he’s quite…dense when it comes to the bias she has to endure.
I find myself interested in Eala. She’s so cunning, and I can only imagine what her reunion with her mother will be like.

No, I think it will be closed, but I do believe he will live in the end

Irian, Eala is just very distrustful and there is more to what she wants. I think Irian is the one who was honest from the beginning

They just don’t do it for me. Rogan is just to shallow a character for me to ship with Fia.

I think these chapters show how Fia has begun to outgrow Rogan and his prejudices — especially when you compare his actions with Irian’s!
The fact that Fia’s saving her supposed “enemy” and proposing friendship with him also clearly shows a level of comfortability and security she might not feel with Rogan anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if she finds a way to save Irian and the girls!

I think Rogan is for the mortal side of Fia and Irian for her Fair Folk side! 💜
I don’t believe Irian will die, I think Fia will help him and somehow they are able to keep the Treasure magic potent some other way. But if he really has to die then I think he will choose Fia as the next heir and she will become the next Sept (if that was the title, can’t remember right now).
I think in the end Fia will help Irian, Eala is so suspicious in my opinion and seems to be really cruel. She does not have Fia’s best interests in mind and she has been very cruel with Rogan as well.
I actually don’t like Rogan and Fia together at all. I think she made the right decision, she deserves so much more. Of course it’s not fair to Rogan either that he kind of has no say in his future but it doesn’t mean that Fia should give up her dignity and self-worth either.

– i’m wondering if it’ll be one of those temporary deaths where he’s somehow brought back. no idea how that’d work out, though.

– so far i’m leaning toward irian because she seems to trust him more. i’m not saying she thinks eala is untrustworthy, but fia is more inclined to believe what irian says about the geas, likely because he actually does seem to know more about it.

– i’m such a sucker for ships that are doomed from the start. i really don’t think they have a chance as it stands, but i still love and mourn them😭
