Today we’re reading from chapter 15 to the end of chapter 22. Let’s do this!

When you’ve finished today’s section, catch up with me in the comments down below so we can discuss the beginning of the book. Happy reading!

Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal from Chapter 15 to Chapter 22. Please only read on if you have finished this section!

We begin today’s reading with an Arthie chapter but in all honesty, I want a Jin or Flick POV asap. I need to know they escaped okay, my nerves can’t take it!

After receiving a list of Arthereum members from Matteo Arthie is surprised to find a public official on the list. She goes to visit him to blackmail him into giving her his marker.

However, on her way there she spots Laith and decides to follow him and ends up on a rooftop with him.

“There was something to be said about a girl who knew everything about every one and a boy more mysterious than the moon.” Um, WOW! I cannot get enough of Hafsah Faizal’s writing! 😍

Laith and Arthie’s nicknames for each other being criminal and saint has me grinning like the Cheshire cat right now.

He put his hands on her waist?! Such a small thing and yet the sails of my ship are blowing steadily in the wind! Is anyone else swooning a little?

Arthie and Laith head to the Office of Public works together – Arthie goes in to speak to Official Lambard from her list whilst she makes Laith wait outside.

The way Arthie weaponises secrets just makes her an even more interesting and clever character. She doesn’t need to use violence when she can use people’s own wrong-doings against them.

After getting an expired marker from Lambard she is suddenly locked in his office alone with a very very large man – but not before Laith snook in. Of course, he shows up the moment she is in danger and tries to fight the man but ends up being strangled by the man instead.

Our of desperation she decides to use Calibore, also revealing it’s secret to Laith. The pistol shifts into an entirely different weapon.

Whyyyy does every chapter have to leave us on a mini cliffhanger!! But at least now we can find out if Jin and Flick will survive escaping!

As Jin distracts the vampire he says that it would be a good time to jump whilst Flick is hiding out of sight. It’s also worth mentioning that he calls her love again. Does this book have anyone else swooning over the smallest of things? (Please tell me it’s not just me).

Jin takes off running so Flick can jump and escape, eventually catching up to her outside. As they run to make an escape Jin gets SHOT whilst he jumps in front of Flick to protect her. The scream that I just let out is a sound I did not know I could make. If anything happens to Jin I will cry.

We switch back to Arthie’s POV which is just as intense. Calibore has transformed into a club and she uses it to smack the man over the head, releasing Laith.

As the man begins to wake up again both of them jump out the window, Laith saving her from falling by grabbing her hand. Cuteeee!

They run through the abandoned warehouse when the man suddenly appears once more cutting Arthie off from escape. But our FMC is very smart and comes up with a plan. She realises they’re surrounded by gunpowder so strikes a match and tosses it behind her in the direction of the man. Everything explodes and Arthie leaps through the window.

Flick and Jin make it to Matteo’s house and Jin is bleeding pretty badly after being shot. *cries*. Flick comes to realise that even though she had been prepared to do anything for her mother’s forgiveness, she never thought anyone would do anything for her. Let alone take a bullet.Β I hope we get the found family trope with her and the Casimir’s!

Things take a tense turn (yes, that’s right – more tense than the scene before) when Matteo finally appears; because of all the blood and Jin riling him up, he attacks Jin with his fangs out, pinning him to the ground.

Of course, our girl Arthie appears and immediately diffuses the situation; putting Matteo in his place.

Not Matteo noticing Arthie’s jacket is slightly torn and asking if she is alright. Is it sad that the bare minimum has me giggling? I love how attentive he is when it comes to her!

Surprisingly, to all the characters along with myself, Matteo apologises to Jin and also informs them that there has been yet another vampire disappearance. Do you have any theories about the vampire disappearances? Who do you think could be behind it and why?

Later that night Arthie ends up at Laith’s apartment as she wants the truth about his real motivations. I also suspect she is unsettled that he knows her secret about Calibore. We then learn that not only can Calibore shift into any weapon, but it can kill anything too. Including vampires… Interestingggg.

Okay, there is going to be a lot more to this story than I thought. Arthie had another family when she came to Ettenia who took care of her as if she was one of their own (before she ran away). I wonder who it could be and why she ran away. What do you think?

Laith reveals that the reason he is here is for revenge against his king. His sister had been sent to Ettenia on a quest to retrieve an artefact that could be used against the king. However, she died on her way here and Laith is now focused on retrieving it and getting his revenge.

Could the boy Arthie asks Chester to tail be related to the family she ran away from? πŸ‘€

After heading to the foundries to get help from a previous acquaintance from her forgery days, Flick is met with hostility and almost violence, until Jin sweeps in and protects her. 😌

Jin calling Matteo an β€˜overgrown mosquito’ I am CACKLING.

Laith brushing his thumb over Arthie’s lip whilst they’re hiding from the guards??? Swoooooning!

Well, the ending of today’s reading has me excited to continue! This book is so fast-paced, there are so many things I can’t wait to be revealed. But most importantly, I’m living for the cute moments between certain characters…

Do you have any theories on who this mystery family Arthie was a part of could be?

Do you think their plans for the heist will work?

Which potential couple are you rooting for?

I’m so excited to see what will happen in tomorrow’s chapters, see you there fairies!

Love,
Jodie

If I’m being honest I’m struggling to keep up with understanding everything with this book and I have no idea how it’s going to go. Im not sure if its because of the changing pov’s or just my moodπŸ˜‚
100% rooting for Jin and Flick❀️ – they have been my favourite parts to read.

I am enjoying the book but for the life of me cant even guess on the mysteries of Arthie, Laith & Jins family. Maybe Jins family have something to do with Arthie, as she was literally outside his house when the fire happened. I cant wait to find out!

I am starting to enjoy Laith & Arthie together but I hate triangles so everytime Matteo & Laith make comments it makes me cringe.

  • Katie

I’m enjoying this but it feels just that little bit more YA than sone of the other YA I’ve been reading lately.

I do think it’s cute but the relationships between the characters don’t have me swooning quite as much as you, Jodie!

I can see the Six of Crows comparisons but this feels slightly more obvious with the prose revealing more directly and hiding less.

I am kind of surprised that the heist has been explained so much but I’m assuming that’s because things are going to go wrong…

I really like how fast-paced this book is, feels very much like a proper heist story!

I didn’t really expect the revelation about Arthie’s mysterious second family. I assume she left them because she didn’t really feel like she belonged. Lover of the ‘found family’ trope that I am, I much prefer seeing her with her Spindrift family, since it’s the one she chose.

I 100% expect something to go wrong with the plan, otherwise it wouldn’t be as thrilling. I’m also looking forward to seeing all the characters finally work together as a crew, and I feel the plans going awry would make their interactions even better (I certainly need more Jin and Flick interactions!)

I absolutely adore Flick and Jin relationship. πŸ₯°
The pacing of this book is very thrilling. So many things happening at the same time. It is simply tearrific πŸ˜‰πŸ€

I’m thinking maybe Arthie’s secret family is connected to the Ram. Maybe? Just me?

Also, I’m really rooting for Laith and Arthie and Jin and Flick now. I was rooting for Jin and Flick since the beginning, but it was hard to get a read on Arthie’s initial feelings towards Laith.

I really want the heist to work.

Also, anyone else getting breathless at the action sequences in the book? Cuz I definitely feel like my heart rate goes up everytime once happens. Like when Laith swung himself and Arthie into the nook from the roof? OMG

Our Girl Arthie really does know how to get out of a scrape, but a love triangle?? or is it just a distraction.
Could she be related to the Ram???
I have a soft spot for vampires, but would it work out without making her one, seems pretty doomed.

Jin really is sweet when he’s smitten.

  • Tasha

Do you have any theories on who this mystery family Arthie was a part of could be? – I’m still under the impression that Arthie is a vampire or half vampire so I think the other family is connected to that.

Do you think their plans for the heist will work?- no I think something will go wrong definitely but what that is I’m not sure.

Which potential couple are you rooting for? – honestly I’m not rooting for neither couple. Flick is still deciding whether or not to betray Jin and I feel like Arthie and Laith have had no real time together and feels to insta love for my liking.

  • Kamaile Segundo

You can never account for everything so I’m not sure how the heist may go. Hoping for the best of course but it’d be more entertaining if there were at least some hiccups.

I love Jin and Flick together but also rooting for Laith and Arthie!

The heist trope is my favorite! I’m torn between shipping Jin and Flick or Laith and Arthie.

No clue, but I’m eager to find out!

    2. Do you think their plans for the heist will work?
Yes, I think it will work, but some things will come to light or be revealed during the heist

I’m leaning towards Arthie perhaps having something to do with Jin’s family as it seems odd that she’s been hiding her past from him, given that they’re so close!

The heist definitely won’t go smoothly!

Definitely rooting for Jin and Flick! I think they’re the only potential couple that would realistically work. I get the feeling that the author is angling for Arthie to be with Laith over Matteo but I’m not sure how that will work, I think she won’t let him take the fall in the end though!

Do you have any theories on who this mystery family Arthie was a part of could be?
I think it is a rich family member who is high up in the government. That would explain how the master wasnt home and why she ran away.

Do you think their plans for the heist will work?
I hope so. I have learned to be skeptical of heists going perfectly after other books.

Which potential couple are you rooting for?
I am hoping for Jin and Link as well as Arthie and Laith.

  • TupaKitty_Reads

I’m curious what Laith’s deal is. What magic does her pistol hold? Jin just took a bullet for Flick. As soon as gunpowder was mentioned, I knew that building was going BOOM. Ah, A shape-shifting weapon. Neat. So, Arthie could’ve been living with this Head of Athereum guy & his family? I like the ingenuity of the Heist & its schemes. What is Laith’s secret? “What are we doing, Arthie? … Is it Mayhem or desire?”
    Daily Q&A:
    Q:
1.) Do you have any theories on who this mystery family Arthie was a part of could be?
2.) Do you think their plans for the heist will work?
3.) Which potential couple are you rooting for?
    A:
1.) Penn Arundel was mentioned twice by Laith, including at Matteo’s when she was trying to gloss over it. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with why she staked out in front of Jin’s house on the day of the fire though.
2.) If it went off without a hitch, it wouldn’t make for a very interesting story climax. I’m hoping they can achieve the overall goal, but I forsee at least a few issues making it more difficult/exciting.
3.) There seems to be a lot more mentioned between Laith & Arthie (Matteo commented, “Neither knows it yet,” which I think is referring to the other’s attraction. I’m rooting for either Arthie couple at this point over Flick & Jin because I think he can do better (she’ll need more character growth before I start rooting for her in anything), but I do enjoy seeing his part of being smitten.
