I really enjoyed Fire and Heist. I thought it was great take on “were-dragons” and theivery. I thought the readalong was a great way to keep my reading organized and I got to enjoy with other fairylooties! Can’t wait until the next one for COS.

It’s always hard to write a review about a book I didn’t like. I keep thinking of all the potential this book could have, of all the things that could’ve gone right and yet they didn’t, of all the hopes and expectations I had about the characters… It gets even harder when I have been misled by the blurb. For I expect dragons to appear and save the day and all I get is a 16-year-old whiner, a drama queen that never stops to show off and manipulate people, simply to achieve her ultimate goals. Oh, yes. I hate Sky, the main character of Fire & Heist, and I’m not ashamed of it. But let’s get things from the beginning, shall we? ”In Sky Hawkins’s family, leading your first heist is a major milestone–even more so than learning to talk, walk, or do long division. It’s a chance to gain power and acceptance within your family, and within society. But stealing your first treasure can be complicated, especially when you’re a wyvern–a human capable of turning into a dragon. Embarking on a life of crime is never easy, and Sky discovers secrets about her mother, who recently went missing, the real reason her boyfriend broke up with her, and a valuable jewel that could restore her family’s wealth and rank in their community. With a handpicked crew by her side, Sky knows she has everything she needs to complete her first heist, and get her boyfriend and mother back in the process. But then she uncovers a dark truth about were-dragon society–a truth more valuable and dangerous than gold or jewels could ever be.” LIE NUMBER 1: She wasn’t able to turn into a dragon! Like AT ALL! She couldn’t even breath fire, for crying out loud! So, why mislead your readers into thinking that they’re going to see a dragon leading a heist and increasing the family treasure, when in fact, all they get to see is a teenage girl whining 24/7?
LIE NUMBER 2: Where the hell is the crime? Literally, all that happens throughout the whole novel is talking about stealing this jewel. Not actually stealing it, but TALKING about stealing it!
I expected some action to take place, especially considering that there are dragons involved (?) and that this heist may lead to answers (?). But no… all we get is a bunch of kids goofing around and talking about how they will execute this heist. Which leads me too… LIE NUMBER 3: This “crew” Sky gathered never seemed to participate willingly in all this. And yes, maybe that’s just me, but a) she started whining to her ex-boyfriend, because he’s father was the one that had that precious jewel, b) she bribed the warlock who could get her into the vault where the jewel was, and c) she basically manipulated BIG TIME her mortal classmate (because, please, this wasn’t a friend by any means), because that classmate had a thing about magic, unicorns and all that jazz.Fire & Heist was one of those books I regretted reading. It reminded me so much of those Disney Channel movies and it felt more like a MG rather than a YA book that it put me to sleep most of the times I picked it up to read it. ? Though I liked the humour a little bit, from a certain point onwards, it felt predictable and repetitive the least. In other words, the writing style wasn’t my cup of tea AT ALL! And that would be fine, if only there was an actual plot and some character development. Alas! ? The characters were flat and the plot didn’t unfold as I expected it to. I mean, what’s the point of introducing your protagonist as a were-dragon, when she cannot even breath fire up till halfway through? This makes me think that the first 150-ish pages of this novel were, more or less, unnecessary to be written in the first place. Am I right or AM I RIGHT? The thing that annoyed me the most though was that the author kept using information and kept referring to other more popular and beloved fandoms, just so to make her book beloved and popular (?).Last but not least, there was too much info-dumping right from the beginning, the world-building was almost non-existent, there were to many clichés in it and the writing style wasn’t really my cup of tea. Overall, this is a book I most certainly wouldn’t recommend reading it any time soon.

I didn’t care for this book either…
I enjoyed the book itself eventually to me it was a slow burner, I liked it eventually it just took me personally
Awhile to get into it. I loved the take on the dragons and the horde gold,because according to legend it was what dragons did and I loved there take on that. I would say a solid 3 out 5 stars. If you’re into dragons you will enjoy this book ??

To be 100% honest I really did NOT enjoy this book.
I couldn’t keep up with the read a long due to health issues I was having but I am currently 80% through it and I keep expecting it to get better but it just keeps getting worse….
I enjoyed the way the author writes, but I do not care too much for the characters or the way the plot was executed.
This story had SUCH potential, I would have written it differently, with more action and more drama, with more characters that have deeper emotions.
I have never rolled my eyes so much while reading a book before….
On top of that, this book was more of a middle grade read…

I found this book quite mediocre, I thought it wanted to be so many things at once that it never really thoroughly did anything. I found the dragon-hybrid part much more interesting than the heists. And I thought it lacked a lot of world builiding in the not earth part ? overall it was a light fast read, but not my favorite ?
Fire & Heist isn’t my usual cup of tea, but I’m so glad I joined in with the Fairyloot readalong because I ended up really enjoying the book, and sharing it with everyone was incredibly fun..
The book itself was pretty funny and I loved the unique take on a world where were-dragons were accepted. The heists were action packed, and the characters were great. The only thing I didn’t like was the love story bits. #TeamRyanSucks
I did think it was aimed at a younger audience than the usual books, but I don’t have a problem with that. Sometimes kids books can be thoroughly entertaining.
Once you’re properly enjoying a book, it’s difficult to put it down after only reading a few chapters, but it was well worth it to chat with everyone about what we thought might happen next. I tried to make a post with my thoughts everyday, but I always read through everyone else’s comments because they’re just so witty! I swear, I would never think of some of the scenarios these guys come up with! The community here really makes the whole read an awesome experience.

I’m a little late in commenting on this but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed taking part in this readalong and seeing everyone else’s thoughts on the book as we read it together! I also really liked the book, I thought it was enjoyable to read and I thought the setting and characters were all interesting. There were a few small things I would change, but overall I would recommend it and will probable read it again sometime!
