Join the FairyLoot team as a Book Development Assistant, where you’ll play an integral role in bringing our special edition books to life. You’ll work closely with our Book Development Team, publishing partners, and creative contributors to ensure every project meets our high standards of quality, design, and timely delivery.

In this role, you will support the development process from manuscript to finished product, assisting with everything from proofreading and artwork briefing to managing deadlines and maintaining project documentation. This is the perfect role for someone who is detail-driven, highly organised, and passionate about the behind-the-scenes magic of book curation and development.

Key Responsibilities
πŸ“§ Communication & Coordination:Β Serve as a key liaison between the Book Development team, publishing partners, printers, and external vendors, ensuring seamless information flow and clear communication across all projects.
πŸ“Š Administrative Support & Organisation:Β Maintain and update internal systems, track project timelines, manage schedules, and keep detailed notes to support efficient workflow across multiple book projects.
πŸ“š Genre Specialisation:Β Work will be separated between Young Adult, Adult, Romantasy, Epic and Mortal genres ensuring a deep understanding of genre-specific trends and audience preferences.
πŸ–¨οΈ Proofing & Pre-Print Quality Checks:Β Review files meticulously for print accuracy, including cover layouts, typesetting, and special edition customisations, ensuring all materials meet production standards before going to print.
πŸ“– Manuscript Review & Feedback:Β Assist in reading and reviewing manuscripts and submissions, providing thoughtful feedback to support the selection and curation of new titles.
🎨 Artwork Briefing Support:Β Help draft detailed briefs for artists and illustrators, ensuring creative assets align with the vision for each book’s design.
πŸ”Ž Artist Research & Sourcing: Research and identify new artists and illustrators whose styles align with FairyLoot’s aesthetic. Provide recommendations for potential collaborators, keeping up-to-date with emerging talent and industry trends.
⏳ Deadline & Project Milestone Management: Monitor project progress, proactively flagging potential delays and helping the team stay on track to meet key deadlines and production milestones.
πŸ“‚ File & Asset Management:Β Organise and manage digital assets, including artwork files, manuscript versions, and production documents to ensure easy access and version control.
πŸ” Quality Assurance & Final Checks:Β Conduct final reviews of physical and digital proofs, ensuring consistency in design elements, colour accuracy, and production specifications.
πŸ’‘ Process Improvement:Β Contribute ideas to streamline workflows, enhance project management efficiency, and support continuous improvement within the Book Development Team.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A passion for books, with a strong interest in the curation and development process, from manuscripts and artwork to a finished product.
  • A keen eye for detail, with the ability to spot errors in text, design, and layouts during proofing and pre-print checks.
  • A deep knowledge of the fantasy genre, including Young Adult, Adult, Romantasy, and Epic Fantasy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for liaising with publishing partners, printers, and creative collaborators.
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • A collaborative team player who can work effectively within a creative team and adapt to shifting priorities.

Requirements

  • Experience in bookselling, or project management within the literary or creative industries is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of FairyLoot Editions, including previous FairyLoot titles.
  • Attention to detail for reviewing proofs, managing files, and ensuring the accuracy of print materials.
  • Deadline-driven and detail-oriented, with the ability to juggle multiple projects efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Strong written and summarisation skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback on manuscripts, artwork, and projects.
  • Proficiency with digital tools such as Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Microsoft Office, and project management platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of file and asset management, with the ability to organise digital files effectively for easy access and version control.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
