FairyLoot is hiring! We are looking for a Junior Designer to join our brilliant and creative Book Development Team in 2025.

FairyLoot is a UK-based fantasy book subscription company, renowned for our beautifully curated monthly subscription boxes and exclusive editions that bring magic to readers worldwide. Our team is made up of dedicated book lovers who share an appreciation for fantasy fiction, stunning artwork, and immersive storytelling. About the Role

Join the FairyLoot team as a Junior Designer, where you will help bring our exclusive editions to life through thoughtful design, creative collaboration, and attention to detail.

In this role, you will work across a wide variety of design projects including full dust jackets, foil-stamped covers, illustrated endpapers, digitally sprayed edges, and more. You will collaborate closely with the Book Development Team to create beautiful, cohesive visuals that resonate with our global community of fantasy readers and collectors.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented designer with a strong understanding of book design trends and a passion for storytelling through visuals.

Key Responsibilities

🎨 Book Design Support: Assist in creating engaging visuals for special edition books, including dust jackets, hardcovers, endpapers, and sprayed or digital edges. Support the design team with layout and illustration tasks.

✍️ Typography & Layout Basics: Help apply type and layout styles across different formats, ensuring designs are clear, visually appealing, and in line with our overall aesthetic.

πŸ–¨οΈ Print File Preparation: Learn to prepare design files for print, including correct resolution, colour setup, bleed, and basic formatting. Training will be provided for working with specialty finishes like foil and embossing.

✨ Creative Input: Contribute ideas during design discussions and help bring concepts to life by working from briefs and team feedback.

πŸ“ Task & File Organisation: Stay on top of assigned design tasks and help keep project files organised and up to date.

πŸ“š Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Design and Book Development teams, and assist with liaising with illustrators and publishers where needed.

πŸ” Trend & Artist Research: Support the team by keeping an eye on design trends and up-and-coming illustrators that could be a good fit for our books.


Who We’re Looking For

  • A deep passion for fantasy, romantasy, and contemporary fiction, along with an interest in the special edition publishing market
  • A versatile designer with strong typographic skills and an understanding of both digital and print design
  • Someone who is confident working independently but also thrives in a team setting
  • A creative thinker with the ability to take ownership of their work and deliver within deadlines
  • A portfolio that shows originality, technical ability, and knowledge of trends in fantasy and book design

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Strong experience preparing print-ready artwork including foil, embossing, and special finishes
  • Exceptional typographic instincts and layout capabilities
  • Familiarity with genre-specific design aesthetics and key illustrators in the fantasy space
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to take feedback positively
  • Prior experience in a design studio or the publishing industry is desirable

  • A copy of your passport or European identity card
  • UK National Insurance number
