Wonderful photo by @cosycoffeereader!

Hey fairies!

I hope you’re all loving the story and are ready for day 4 of the April Romantasy Book readalong for Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana. Yesterday, we left off with Lore meeting Isla and Finndryl and telling them that she’s human!

Today we are reading from chapter 17 to the end of chapter 23. I’m excited to see where the story goes next!

Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana from Chapter 17 to the end of Chapter 23. Please only read on if you have finished this section!

-!SPOILERS!-

After drinking the night away, Lore wakes up with a hangover and goes to The Exile, the pub that Grpyh owns with Grpyh and Finndryl. Lore makes them both breakfast, even though there isn’t anything for her to cook!

As a thank you for cooking and cleaning the pub, Lore’s given some coin from Gryph that’s passed along by Finndryl, but he’s not acting very warm or friendly to her. I wonder why he doesn’t like her?

Lore goes to the market with Isla to get some food for the pub, but the wind blows off her scarf covering her ears and she’s exposed as a human to the sentries in the market! They both have to run away!

Isla runs one way and Lore runs another to make sure they’re not caught! Lore runs into the forest where there’s no sunlight and it seems to be whispering to her, so she asks it to save her. In response, the forest makes the sound of her running quieter and moves the roots out of the way!

The guards are catching up to Lore and she decides she’s going to fight them – hasn’t she had only one training session with the dagger? I can’t see this going well! Somehow Finndryl appears to save her and dispatch all of the guards, but not before Lore is stabbed!

The wound on Lore’s side isn’t good, she’s been poisoned, she’s starting to burn up and Finndryl carefully rushes her to the river and helps her by sucking the poison out of her! Why am I finding this romantic?

In her recovery, Lore dreams of her mother and how the woods always called out to her, but her mother forbade her from going into them! Maybe her mother knew that there was something special about Lore?

Asher tells Lore that he and Isla are going to take the guards off her trail by letting Isla pretend to be her! Isla barely knows Lore, it’s nice that she would risk her life for her.

Whilst Lore’s recovering from the poison, Finndryl ends up taking care of her by feeding and telling her stories that he created himself! I think I know which Fae male I prefer!

Once Lore feels better, she cooks for everyone in the Exile and enters the forest behind the pub known as the Wilds, where the moonlight shows her raw magic and her book reacts to it as well, it’s imbued with raw magic!

Somehow when Lore looks at the book, she understands everything even though it’s in a different language. The magic must allow her to understand! She gathers up everything she needs to cast a spell to protect everyone she cares about.

Lore spends most of her days cooking in the pub and learning spells at night in the forest. However one night, Finndryl follows her and warns her not to touch certain flowers, unless she wants blisters. It’s sweet that he cares about her!

Finndryl doesn’t need to worry, Lore has been collecting these flowers for the last few days and nothing has happened to her, the magic must be protecting her! After a little back and forth, he agrees to help her translate the book. Why does he want to help her translate it after lying to her about not knowing the language?

Lore explains to Finndryl that she can see the magic in the book and the forest, she’s always been able to see it ever since she was young. He seems confused, only certain scholars can sense ‘Source‘. I wonder if all humans can see it or just Lore? The book has chosen Lore, so only she can see the images that it shows when bathed in the moonlight!

After a while, Lore can decipher texts by herself and with Finndryl’s help! I feel like something’s building between them. Lore feels guilty about Asher and gets a shock when she touches Finndryl!

A week passes before Lore can harvest the ‘Source‘ for a spell, she checks on Asher and Isla, who’re safe. Then she checks on Duskmere but can’t seem to see through the veil surrounding the village, why are the Fae hiding the humans?

When Lore searches for Grey, he’s no longer in Duskmere but in the palace of the Queen of Rwyandall! He’s been drugged by enchanted food and wine! Lore decides she’s going to save him and disappears into the Wilds!

I hope Lore can save Grey from the Queen and that the book gives her the magic she needs!

Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?

Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?
I do think that Lore and Finn have feelings for each other. However, these feelings also developed relatively quickly considering when he first met Lore he was cold.

Why do you think the book choose Lore?
Maybe the book choose Lore because of her willpower and determination. She tends to dive headfirst into things. And the book needed someone to do something drastic by saving it from the Library.

Do you think Lore is fully human?
All I can say is that Lore is not fae. We know this because of the curse on the library that prevents fae from entering said library. Does that mean she’s fully human? Not necessarily. Maybe the book is transforming her into something else. When it talked to her, it kind of alluded to them “becoming one”. It kind of makes me think of Kaltain from ToG. But, maybe not as terrible.

Yesssss!!! I wantedΒ Finn to be the love interest from the moment we met him, so I’m liking his vibe with Lore at the moment.Β

I’m not sure why the book chose Lore, could she be part fae? Maybe? I genuinely hope she’s 100% human, just to make this story unique. But I think the likelihoodΒ will be that she’s part fae.Β

I want to know what happened between Asher and Finn. Lore seems confused by reaction to Finn touching her. I have no idea about Finn towards Lore. It seems like the book chose Lore because she sees the magic. I find it very interesting that magic is kept out of Duskmere.

Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?
I feel like Lore is confused about her feelings and likes any man that saves her life. Although tbf, I also love a good dark moody man. I think Finn is starting to have feelings for Lore.

Why do you think the book choose Lore?
She has magic and a pure heart, she wants magic to help her people. She is brave and selfless. I think she will help save her people or free them with the power harnessed from the book.

Do you think Lore is fully human?
I think she may be a witch. I think her family has magic and it was passed to her.

I like the book, I am excited to see how it ends, although I feel like the storyline is a little all over the place and a little rushed.

I definitely think that Lore and Finn have feelings for each other. I have to say that I like her relationship with Finn more than her relationship with Asher. I didn’t think that I’d like Finn all that much, and I’m still a little unsure about him, but I’ve been enjoying the buildup of their relationship. I’m hoping that this is the romance that sticks.

I have two theories on why the book chose Lore. My first one is that the book could sense something in Lore that told it to choose her. Something like her desire to change the world. My second theory is that Lore isn’t fully human. Maybe she’s related to the gods she talked about? Maybe she’s part fae? I’m not entirely sure yet but I think that there has to be more to it than her just being human. But, maybe the book just chose her specifically because she is human. In a world where the fae keep humans locked up through fear it wouldn’t surprise me that one of those humans was chosen to fight back.

Poor Grey, did he go looking for Lore and get caught? *sobs*

I think Lore and Finn definitely have some chemistry happening. I really want to know the beef between him & Asher. Is it possible Isla has or had feelings for Asher and got hurt and thats why Finn doesnt like him? Im really not wanting a love triangle to happen.

I think there is definitely something non-human about Lore for her to be able to use the book.

I feel like this book still hasn’t figured out its pacing, because we’ll have several weeks of nothing and then suddenly things speed up within a day, and all of that back and forth is giving me whiplash. With that much time it’s starting to make me wonder how the seasons work within the context of the world.

I bring this up in order to circle back to the first question about Finn and Lore having attraction, and because of how much time they HAVE been spending with each other–despite Finn’s grumpy grumpiness–I find this relationship more believable and more organic? Also, I definitely warmed up to Finn (the bit with the soldiers and the “touch her and die” sequence and the POISON was A LOT).

The book made a bargain with Lore, and I wonder if this was because Lore might inherently have magic already, and her magic called out to the book. Not sure if that makes her more or less human, since Lore’s knowledge of magic in any person is severely limited.

    Ohhh great questions!

I think Lore and Finn are slowly falling for each other, in supportive quiet ways that are more intimate.

I can’t tell why the book chose her, but maybe because of her ability to see the magic might help her be able to connect with it more, and maybe her internal wishes and desires are preferred by the book.

The last one is a great question. I think we don’t know much about the humans though. It does seem her mother could see them too though? There was a conversation where she told Lore to stop looking or saying she saw them or pretend she didn’t see the or something. It is intriguing!

I thin Finn is quite a private person who doesn’t trust easily, but he has a kind he at t and Lore has grown in him. I can’t help but feel Lord is drawn to both men, and as long as it’s not a love triangle I’m all for it! Polyamory could work well here.

I think the book was possibly from Lore’s original land, and as she has a spark of magic and can see the source, it chose her. Possibly something to go with her people’s heritage. I would like it if she’s human, but magical- like her people are originally witches and use the land and the seasons/sun/moon for power and work in harmony with the world.

Poor Grey- he must have been so strong willed to go through the spell surrounding his town! Hopefully Lord can save him cus I love their friendship πŸ’•

Catching up after my bridgerton binge 😊

Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other? – I think something could develop between them as they spend more time together but I’m not sure whether that is genuine attraction or lack of other options .

Why do you think the book choose Lore? – again it could just be the case of lack of options – no one else has been in the library for a long time. I’m still sticking to my theory of humans being able to cast magic though not just Lore.

Do you think Lore is fully human? – yes I’ve never considered that she may be part something else and just that humans were the original magic users and somehow the Fae took this from them and altered their history. I may be however completely wrong πŸ˜‚.

    1. Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?
I think Finndryl is slowly falling for Lore’s charm, not too sure what to think about Lore. It feels a bit as if she is developing feelings for the very first two fae who were kind to her, so I don’t really know what to think of it. Also, there seems to be a sort of love triangle happening now that Asher is away for weeks and Lore and Finndryl are working together, and I’m not sure I’m a fan of this. I just don’t really like love triangles…
I do think Lore and Finndryl have more chemistry together and their ‘relationship’ is developing more naturally, since they are spending time together, which is shown on the pages

    2. Why do you think the book choose Lore?
Maybe because she was the first in 1000 years to come across it as the first person to enter the library, maybe because she is human

    3. Do you think Lore is fully human?
I think she is fully human, but I believe there to be more to the humans than the fae initially thought. Maybe some have an affinity for magic and the source, which makes Lore able to see the magic and access the source

So… How did Finn know where to find her in the woods?
I like that their relationship is developing, their interest in magic is bringing them closer. And Asher being away for so long makes her go to Finn for help. I really like them all so I don’t know who to ship πŸ˜…
Grey being with the queen was quite a shock! And how does Lore think she can save him when she doesn’t master the grimoire yet, and he most likely won’t want to leave with her? Will the book help? Will it be enough? Is she getting caught or will Ash and Isla come to the rescue at last minute?

  • Theroselectory

Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?

Yes!!! I think Finn liked her from the start. I’m not surprised Lord is also falling for him after he saved her life, looked after her and now working together for so long.

Why do you think the book choose Lore?
I think it probably would’ve have chosen anyone who could get it away from the Fae. It most likely sensed that Lore’s intentions were pure and chose her to escape.

Do you think Lore is fully human?
I don’t know but I don’t think she’s Fae if they can’t see the β€˜source’. She may be something else entirely.

    1) I do, though I don’t know how I feel about a possible love triangle. They aren’t always well done. [That being said, I’m always here for the self-growth of a hero/heroine who /thinks/ they likes the first love interest but discovers a better connection with the other as the story unravels and they go through more of their self-discovery journey!]
    2) My guess is it was looking for someone who respected and revered magic in a way that the dark fae [and maybe light fae?] don’t because it almost feels more like a right to them than a blessing? I’m trying to think of another reason besides “pure of heart”, which seems to be the usual reason, because that reason is a little overused, and respect for magic is a much better one for this story, imo!
    3) No, I never have, though I don’t know if she’s /half/ human. I’m wondering if maybe, generations ago, a fae sired a halfling that passed as human enough that no one noticed, so no one was the wiser, or if maybe another human was taken years ago or something. I’m not quite sure what the details may be, but I don’t know that I think she’s a halfling, especially with the human lifespan being so much shorter than the fae, I think that’s going to play a part in her bloodline history.

Finn seems attuned to her despite his surly silent treatment. Gryph seems nice, if lazy. Lore cooked breakfast & cleaned up the bar to repay Gryph for harboring fugitives, but he had Finn give her a hefty coin purse for it that she tried not to accept. Finn might have some sort of wind magic (fast as the wind, brewing-storm energy coming off him). The forest is whispering to Lore now? I wonder if Isla went to get help when she got separated from Lore while running from the sentry guards. Finn to the rescue! “Good girl.” 🫠 “I’ll kill you for touching her.” Move over Asher, I have found my book boyfriend. Finn sucked the poison out of her. Isla & Asher are drawing away the sentry guards, but more are searching houses. Only Finn will be staying behind to protect her while she convalesces. Also, the forest called to her as a child, & she saw will-o’-the-wisps. Finn’s storytelling. She’s a witch. Finn agreed to help her with the grimoire. He was lying about not being able to read the grimoire. The Love Triangle begins. Grey, who gifted Lore what turned out to be a rare Adder Stone & kept trying to get Lore to leave Duskmere with him, is no longer in Duskmere. He’s at the Queen of Rywandall’s palace having eaten her food & come under its spell. Lore is ignoring Gryph & Finn to try to save him – alone. πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
    Daily Q&A:
    Q:
1.) Do you think Lore and Finndryl have feelings for each other?
2.) Why do you think the book choose Lore?
3.) Do you think Lore is fully human?
    A:
1.) Yes, & they’ve been spending an awful lot of time working closely together.
2.) She’s been able to see magic (will-o’-the-wisps) since she was a child, so she’s clearly more attuned to it (Source) than the alchemists & others who spend years of their life trying to sense it (& even they can’t SEE it).
3.) She’s a witch? I’m not sure if that means she’s more than human, necessarily. I get the feeling maybe her mom could see magic, too, or knew someone who could.
