Happy Tuesday, fairies and welcome to day 2 of our readalong of Nectar of the Wicked by Ella Fields. I am really enjoying this book so far and I hope that you all are as well!
There were a lot of events that happened yesterday, and I’m sure that we are in for more excitement today!
Today we are reading from Chapter 6 to the end of Chapter 10! Let’s get started!
Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Nectar of the Wicked by Ella Fields from chapters 6 to 10. Please only read on if you have finished this section!

Today’s reading session begins with our main character turning over Florian’s proposal in her mind. I love that her inner feeling is telling her she doesn’t want to be without him..
Our main character dresses to keep her wits about her as she knows that she is easily distracted by him! This made me laugh so much, unfortunately for her, I don’t think Florian will be deterred by her wearing a more modest dress as he seems to be the type to get what he wants, which is our main character.
As our girl sets off after having made up her mind, she is stopped by the man with the golden eyes she met previously at the Wild Hunt! He’s definitely a bit of a creep because why does he just stare at her and not blink? Does his eyes not get dry? Anyway our girl smartly runs away and does succeed in evading him somehow.
Florian has nicknamed our main character Butterfly, how adorable is that! But before they can spend some more time together… Florian has noticed that she has an odd smell around her and after hearing what has happened, he tells her that there are many who want to stop him… Is anyone else curious to see why people are wary of him? Do we think it’s just because he is a King or is there more to him?
We are finally seeing our two main characters sign their marriage contract, where it is revealed that all Fae contracts, marriage or otherwise, are inescapable…
Finally, they arrive in Folkyn but our main character is freezing so Florian gives her some winter clothes. He keeps trying to hold her at arm’s length but we can tell that he cares for her but just isn’t good at showing it!
Florian’s kingdom sounds beautiful, is anyone else obsessed with the snow and the winter vibes?
It seems that our characters are enjoying being in the carriage away from the cold… Florian might regret teasing our main character so much!
Our main character has been spoiled as Florian has constructed a wall full of books for her in her own special room! That is so incredibly sweet and I think we are all swooning for her. After years of being treated like nothing, our main character’s life might be looking up!
After arriving at Hellebore, our main character, who still does not have a name…, finds that people around Florian are not the friendliest of Fae and she wonders what secrets are within the manor.
Our main character sneaks off and encounters some horses in the stable! This whole interaction with these adorable horses, Florian and our girl is so sweet. When they go on a horseback ride together it seems so romantic, out in the snow and the perfect winter date vibe! They start to get to know each other more and is anyone else obsessed that Florian is noticing all these little details about our girl?
Some more banter and intense moments ensue between our characters and I’m really living for all this! After, our main character doesn’t see Florian for a few days, but she doesn’t need him because she has rescued the cutest little fluffy baby wolf cub! I just adore baby animals, how could you not!
Florian is not impressed but we see lots of lovely moments as our main character and the little cub bond.
As time goes on, our main character is realising that only she can change. I’m feeling sad for her and hope that she can overcome everything that happened in her past!
That day, our main characters go to the city together where Florian takes her to a restaurant and there is a lot that is revealed. Florian admits to her that her family are not in his kingdom. He further explains to our girl that he is feuding with another Kingdom, Baneberry and it turns out Florian wants vengeance for his sister, Lilitha…
Today’s reading session ends with our main character confused and not sure what to make about everything she has discovered but with a new companion in her wolf cub, Snow.
Wow, today’s reading had so many revelations and also we find out a bit more about this world. I have definitely been kept on the edge of my seat!

I have no idea where her family might be from.
It seems like Florian’s palace is a very tense place.
He seems surprised she isn’t just sitting in her room.
I am glad she is pushing him to be more than just his treasure.
I’m also glad that she seems to be voicing her opinions more!
Firstly I’m assuming his sister was killed by assassins or someone of the other kingdom. so I’m going to call it she’s a royal from the kingdom he has an issue with and for some extra cliché ima say she’s part of the family that killed his sister or at least he will believe they did and it will create dramaaaa. Let’s hope I’m wrong so this can stay interesting.
So far so good quite enjoying the read.

I am loving this book, but there are so many mysteries and unasked questions. I need to know whats going to happen.
Do you have any theories as to where our main character’s family is?
Baneberry, but probably not why would he want to be with his enemy’s kin.
Why do we think all of the Fae in the manor are a bit hostile towards our main character?
Maybe she is from Baneberry and they resent her for it. Or they see her as lowborn and dont trust her.
What do we think happened to Lilitha that has made Florian want vengeance?
I am guessing she was murdered while living in baneberry.
I am so happy to hear that you are loving it, I am also really enjoying the element of surprise that keeps cropping up as I carry on reading it. I do see that her family could be in Baneberry but I don’t know how that ties in either…so many questions!
Do you have any theories as to where our main character’s family is?
I wonder if her family is one of the royal families from a different area.
Why do we think all of the Fae in the manor are a bit hostile towards our main character?
I think they don’t like that she’s an outsider and she’s probably not acting the way a normal Fae would in the situation since she doesn’t know any better. Maybe they also all know something about her that she doesn’t know.
What do we think happened to Lilitha that has made Florian want vengeance?
I’m wondering if she maybe fell in love with the prince from another area and something happened. It would be cool if that tied in with them maybe being the FMCs family or something like that.
I think that could be quite likely, that everyone knows something about Flea but she is the only one who doesn’t know!
Lilitha is very wild, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened!

I feel like all the fae we know so far are just…like that. Is there a reason? Are there any nice jovial fae?

Murder! I briefly thiught it would be a neat twist if Flea (pls give this girl a real name already) was Lilitha’s daughter but that would sort of destroy the marriage to Florian LOL.
I do wonder why they do all seem to be a bit grumpy…maybe it’s due to their long lifespan so they’ve all been through quite a lot?

Maybe she’s not the first girl he’s brought home as his betrothed… they must be expecting something to happen

Maybe she was betrothed to the king of baneberry and killed somehow.

I don’t know why everyone is so mean to Flea but I feel like it’s got to be a little uncalled for- whatever the reason is. Even if she’s connected to something bad like a prophecy or something it’s not like *she personally* did anything that she or we know of
I agree, especially after all she has been through! Flea just needs a break!

I’m kinda thinking they are in the kingdom Florian is going to war with. Someone called her princess, but as she is only engaged to the king at the moment, that shouldn’t be her title. Maybe she is the daughter of the king Florian is going to war with, which is why he might’ve been searching for her and wants to make her his wife
2. Why do we think all of the Fae in the manor are a bit hostile towards our main character?
If they are aware of the ulterior motive Florian might have, using her as a pawn against the other kingdom, I would understand the hostility. They could also not trust her for now and having suffered a lot, are naturally distancing themselves
3. What do we think happened to Lilitha that has made Florian want vengeance?
She was murdered
That’s very true, I actually didn’t think about why someone called her Princess! I wish they were a bit less hostile even while distancing, I feel like they all know her past and where she was found and she’s also really not had it easy!
I’m so wondering if Flea will realise that the part if the soul that Florian has is her after searching his rooms. I wonder how he’ll react when he finds out how the palace staff are treating her although I do want her to spend time in the kitchen with the chef and his sons. I feel like that could be a really cute relationship and would also give her something outside of Florian.
I feel like Lilitha was murdered by the royal family of Baneberry but I also wonder what happened to Florian’s parents and if they were somehow involved.
The chef and his sons are sweet actually, the only ones who are willing to talk to her a bit! I think that could only be the possible answer as I don’t see why else FLorian would hate them so much! 🤔
I love how our FMC is growing into the character she is meant to be. Her little acts of defiance are so much fun to read but it just shows how playful she is as well.
I have a feeling we are not going to like where she comes from! As they say sometimes its better to let things lie.
I think the fae being hostile is one of those situations where everyone seems to know more than our FMC and its so annoying because she doesn’t deserve to be treated like that 🙁
I am loving how she is coming out of her shell and I cannot wait to see how she will grow more! Agreed, they need to step out of their boxes a bit because they are blaming things that she didn’t cause on her!
I feel like shes related to someone at the kingdom Florian is at war with. It’s weird that they havent slept together yet, I am curious why. Does it cement the bond more? Seems like she is very in the dark and I am eager to know what is being kept from her. Loving the book so far!
I’m guessing she’s somehow from his rival’s kingdom.
I think paritally from the stigma of changelings/being raised in the Crustle [and maybe even her “working” at the pleasure house, if you can even say that?]. But largely, I think, because she’s from the rival kingdom, and maybe her original family was somehow responsible for his sister’s death? [And maybe he/his family is partially responsible for her being left in Crustle?]
Murdered/assasinated, maybe she married into the Baneberry royal family and they killed her for some reason [or, at least, failed to protect her, etc.]. It would explain why he wants to marry our MC so badly – mirroring what was done to his sister by having her [part of the Baneberry royal family, hence someone calling her Princess] marry him [brother to Lilitha], and then have her die at his hands. [If this is all true, I’m guessing his plans will be dashed when he realizes he doesn’t want to/”can’t” kill her. Or maybe he uses her as a hostage at some point during the war?
So behind, but trying to catch up!
Do you have any theories as to where our main character’s family is? I am going to assume her family is in the kingdom where Florian is at war with. He probably had them killed.
Why do we think all of the Fae in the manor are a bit hostile towards our main character? Maybe everyone already knows who she is. She may be connected to the death of Florian’s sister or something.
What do we think happened to Lilitha that has made Florian want vengeance? The other kingdom probably killed her. Perhaps it was an accident, perhaps it was intentional.
