I hope that you’re all loving Shanghai Immortal by A.Y. Chao so far! It’s now day 3 and the story is stepping up! I’m nervous to see where it goes.

Today we’ll be reading from Chapter 13 to the end of Chapter 19, let’s jump in!
Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Shanghai Immortal by A.Y. Chao, from chapters 13 to 19. Please only read on if you’ve finished this section!

Jing wakes up mortified, remembering that she licked Tony. She forgets about it quickly in favour of looking over her new surroundings.
This breakfast meet-up is making me hungry. I need bao buns, noodles and a chocolate eclair – STAT!
Not only has Big Wang told her to have fun and sent reinforcements to keep her safe, he’s also provided her with a generous line of credit so that she can have a good time in Shanghai. I think I like him?
Jing and Tony tour Shanghai together, eating too see rolls and ma ka rong’s and shopping. Honestly it sounds like the best day!
Oh, Jing. I feel so sad at the thought of her buying an informative book on how to make friends. Tony comforts her and tells her there’s no shame in wanting to learn new skills and tells her she’s charming. Awwww.
We finally find out what brought Tony Lee to hell. His sister has had a troubled life and doesn’t have long left. Tony petitioned Big Wang to allow him to pay off her karmic debt so she can have a more comfortable life in the immortal world. He feels guilt that he wasn’t there to stop her life dwindling. I want to cry. Tony’s too good for this world. He even thought it would initially be 150 years he was indentured for! And STILL agreed!
They’re off for dinner and by Tony’s reaction to seeing her donned in a qipao and jewellery, I think there are feelings blossoming. Even more so when he gifts her a purse filled with all the new snacks and sweets she’s discovered earlier in the day.
They bond over Russian vodka, sunsets and snippets of truths and the more time goes by, the more I really love them together.
When they return to Cathay hotel, they have visitors. Their reinforcements have arrived and it’s none other than Lady Gi and her partner, Ah Lang! I was SO hoping Gigi would make an appearance again!
Lady Jing feeling cherished by Tony is about to make me shed a tear. She deserves this. ? She deserves someone who sees she’s more than her anger and the petty actions she commits when angry. Who knows, maybe Tony will even help her manage it!
Judging from Gigi’s reaction to learning Jing didn’t get any blood last night, I’d say Jing really doesn’t need that book on friendship. She might think Gigi is not her friend, but she definitely is!
Their trip to discover who gave Tony a fake talisman ends semi successfully. The woman who gave Tony the talisman had no idea it was a fake, so it’s either Brother Zhu or the hulijing who are responsible!
Later, when Jing wakes, Tony has found her blood. I have a suspicion fairies, tell me if you’re thinking the same… I think Tony is giving Jing his blood. She loves the smell, much as she loves his smell, and she even says the blood feels familiar. If he has done that, it’s oddly romantic.
What Tony isn’t prepared for though is the rush that often hits Jing when she’s consumed blood. She’s sparkling…
And she wants to see if she sparkles everywhere. Yep, even her ta-tas are sparkling! Tony is very flustered!
Hm, ok. Maybe I’m wrong about the blood? He tells her it’s from a blood bank. If it was his surely he’d tell her?
Gigi arrives to ready Jing for the Paramount. It’s a real Princess Diaries makeover moment! Jing even opens up about what she went through at the Hulijing court. No wonder she hates them all.
Yep, they’re definitely friends. Gigi got her a birthday present and it’s so perfectly matched to her outfit that she gives it to her now. This has been such a lovely chapter, my heart is full. ?

If there is no romance at the paramount I am going to quit! They are supposed to dance!! (There is no other option!!) And if we are very lucky they’ll kiss??? Hopefully? I mean… this slow burn is killing me!!! And is the only thing that’ll keeping me alive xD
2) Were you expecting Gigi and Lang to show up?
Actually no, I didn’t. But I am glad to see Jing’s “not friend” and her interacting <3 I am glad it's someone who cares (even though there are a lot who care about her)

No, it just added a name on the list: Gigi.
Can I just quickly say that this section broke me? I feel like an ariane Grande song "one taught me kindness" "one taught me laughing" anyway – chapter 14 broke me … and my heart… Jing buying that book, Lee talking about his sister … and it reminded me that when you are down and the world seems to be dark and hostile: there are still friends waiting to catch you <3 and when that wasn't enough that chapter in the Russian restaurant and the sunset … * dreamy sighs * after that that horror on the market … and I have to admit I thought that it would be his blood too but he looked too calm serving it and I expected much worse – I am still waiting for the evil awakening … maybe I am too nervous that everything will turn bad eventually …
I love a good makeover scene. And it’s nice having Jing start to realize that maybe she DOES have friends. Gigi is definitely her friend.
And there better be some a bit of romance at the Paramount. AND DANCING. There better be dancing! They can’t go to a jazz club and NOT DANCE!!!
What do you think will happen at the Paramount? Any romance? I think so yeah, maybe not a lot of romance, but something small and cute – a wee bonding moment
Were you expecting Gigi and Lang to show up? No I wasn’t but it was a pleasant surprise! Jing and Gigi are definitely friends even it Jing doesn’t realise
Now that a few more characters have been introduced and we know them a little better, has your favourite changed? No, my favourite is still Jing! I don’t think that will change, I’ve loved her from the start. Although Tony is significantly growing on me, he’s a close second. He’s just so sweet, we don’t deserve him

There will definitely be a bit of romance at the Paramount, maybe even if it isn’t between Jing and Tony but I suspect more will happen involving a certain Court.
I figured the reinforcement would be either of the body guards or the chef who Jing lives with in Hell. Was interesting to see Gigi show up given how important her role is in immortal Shanghai. But it made for some fun scenes.
I feel like the best character in this to me is Lord Black mainly because I love his personality despite the little we see of him. I hope to see more of him in this book.

I didn’t have a favourite, but Gigi is certainly a top contender for my right now!

Surely! We’ve had the makeover montage, Mr Lee has been caught looking at Jing oddly. I feel like something is in the air! (Though I also kind of expect something odd and hilarious to happen to subvert my expectations)

No! I thought it would Horsey would show up to rain on Jing’s praid.

I still love them all.
This section has been so unexpectedly wholesome and emotional. I’m very worried for everyone now, especially because Jing keeps feeling watched when she’s out with Tony. It has to be either Soo’s doing or Tony’s sister or Mr Smith, who we haven’t seen in a while. We’ll see. I’m also curious about Willie. Is he half-human?
1) I fully expect some romance and dancing at the Paramount! And I’m looking forward to it. Those two are so sweet, ugh. Lang and Gigi have to make up too. They’re adorable.
2) Gigi was one of the people I had in mind, though I also thought it could be Lord Black and Bullhead or Horsey. Very happy with our group, though!
3) Tony Lee has my whole heart and nobody better ruin this for me! 150 years of service to save his sister? I knew it’d be family related! What a gem of a man. But I like Jing and Gigi too (chapters 14 and 19 anyone? ?). Lang seems great too. I hope he’s not betraying us.
Oh, and still think it was Tony’s blood. He probably doesn’t want to tell her because she doesn’t like to think about where the blood came from. Being constantly judged for having to drink blood has probably made her associate some form of guilt with feeding, and Tony is an observant man.

Chapter 14 left me in tears … so … hi?
I have to admit it was more the book aspect as Lee’s sister – I really wanted to hug Jing so so bad.
I really hope some romance happens at the Paramount! Lady Jing and Mr Lee’s slow-burn is so good!!!
While I wasn’t expecting Gigi and Lang specifically to show up, I figured it would be someone we’ve met before, and I’m excited it was them!
Mr Lee is still definitely at the top of my list, but Gigi is giving him a run for his money.
I’m really excited to continue! I’m absolutely loving this book so far.

We just had the sweetest chapter with Gigi and Jing, I need some romance at the club! I Cannot wait to see Tony’s reaction to Jing all done up! The Paramount trip must end in chaos though if she is looking for Brother Zhu.
I am so glad that it was Gigi and Lang that showed up as backup! It shows that Gigi really does care for Jing but also that Big Wang knows who her actual friends are. Gigi and Lang bring great double date energy to the Tony and Jings trip.
I think I have to move my favorite character over to Gigi simply for the dress up sequence. It was too wholesome and pure! Love these girls.

1. I hope that The Paramount will be the first time Jing will be able to relax and come into her own. I think some romance will occur between her and Mr Lee. However, I do think that the Huilijing will cause trouble.
2. I was not expecting Gigi and Lang to appear but I am very happy that they did. I love the friendship between Gigi and Jing and hope that it will continue!
3. I think that my favourite character is Gigi. I couldn’t decide on a fav on day two!

Hopefully! It definitely seems to be heading towards a romance and it seems to be a good time for it to happen with the makeover scene.

I thought we would get more Gigi at some point, as she seemed too fun of a character to only have one scene, but I was expecting Bullhead and Horsey.

I like Gigi! I still don’t really like Lady Jing so finding the book a little difficult to get through.

1) Romance /for sure/! Especially after the bonding with Gigi. [Also, while the dress seems different than described, I’m guessing the art on the back endpages are of them dancing at the Paramount, so there’s at least that – which will likely be pining/yearning at a minimum!]
2) No, but I feel like it’s partially so Jing can see she’s a ward and not a servant.
3) It’s tough to say still, but now because it’s a tie between Old Zao and Gigi.
Also, I feel like, again, so much happened in this section! The first day didn’t feel like a whole lot, but these last two have revealed so much about these characters!

Oh how this section has hooked me! I feel it might be because Lady Jing sounds less annoying now, or maybe I’ve just gotten used to her at this point haha.
1) I think we will finally see Tony (Mr. Lee) confess his feelings for Jing and Jing won’t really know how to handle that. But here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
2) I was super thrilled to see Gigi with her ”long distance” boyfriend Lang, it’s so sweet how he calls her Petal. I love their relationship and dynamic, I’m glad to see more of them. I think they will be good for Jing and we’ll see her develop her friendship even more!
3) Yesterday, I didn’t know which character was my faavorite, now I want to say Gigi since she has a fiery personality and isn’t afraid to show she cares about others, even if it is though pointed comments sometimes.

I really enjoyed this chapters of the story! I’m looking forward to seeing more of the mystery that is unfolding with Tony Lee. Not only his background and personality, but also the fake talisman he received. I love that we found out he is deal with Big Wang is for his sister! As an older sibling, that really go to me!
I was not expecting Gigi and Ah Lang to show up, but I loved seeing their dynamic! i can’t wait to see how the four of them will interact at Paramount. While I’m sure there will be a some more romantically charged moments between Lady Jing and Tony Lee, I think something is going to go awry when Lady Jing continues to search for answers.
I’m liking Lady Jing and Tony Lee more, but I think my favourite character is Gigi right now!
Also, I’m very intrigued about Lady Jing’s reaction to drinking human blood. Is there a reason Big Wang never gave that kind of blood or is something else going on?
Overall, I’m still not sure how the story is going to end, but I am really excited to see what happens next!

I am definitely hoping for some romance at the Paramount. If Lee and Jing don’t get the chance to dance together, I will be very sad.
I was not expecting Gigi and Ah Lang to be the escorts that arrived, but I’m not disappointed at all.
My favorite character is still Lee. He has a heart of gold and reminds me of a puppy dog. He’s so sweet and only wants the best for those he cares about.
