-!SPOILERS!-

At a morning briefing, we find out that the Resistance killed a group of Palace guards at a pub the night before and Saoirse wonders if her blackmailer is a member of the Resistance.

While Saoirse and Devlin are on guard, a message about Felix is delivered to the Prince’s office. Saoirse points out that this is fishy after the attack the night before and offers to check the office out first. She finds the stamp on his desk with the missing branch but Devlin enters and sees her holding it, she tastes his suspicion. Oops.

It turns out the letter is blank, Saoirse had it delivered earlier. Sneaky!

Saoirse sets another trap and has the Prince, Laa’el and Devlyn find her taking a crossbow from the training room. Laa’el and Devlyn leave and Saoirse invites the Prince to a game of questions. She asks about Szeiryna and he tells her to drop it for her own safety.

Hayes takes her to the library and shows her his brother’s portrait, revealing that his brother was lured to his death by a siren. Uh oh.

It turns out Szeiryna was an entire sector of sirens after the barrier was created but the King burned it to the ground. Hayes’s father was actually the one who created the barrier and it is linked to his, his mother’s and his father’s life forces. As long as the Royal family lives, the barrier will remain.

Saoirse realises the person blackmailing her is from the Resistance, looking for a way to bring the barrier down. She realises that she didn’t have to sing once to get Hayes to answer her questions, he genuinely wants to know her.

A messenger interrupts to tell Hayes that Felix’s body has been found. Saoirse and Hayes join the meeting and the King reveals that they believe Felix was killed by Spektryl. Grisham pipes up and tells them about the beautiful woman who approached him after the previous meeting, looking for information. Honestly, Grisham.

Hayes suggests he investigate the two murders with his guards and they argue before the King decides Hayes has until his birthday to bring a solid lead.

Saoirse, Hayes and Laa’el head to the River’s Edge Pub to enquire about Brogan Nash. They talk to the owner and Laa’el uses his mind to draw a picture of the girl they saw that night, i.e. Saoirse in her true form.

Back in the war room, they look at a list of Spektryl’s kills and Saoirse finds out that three of her kills were members of the Royal Guard. She realises that the Raze are plotting against the Royals and using her to do it.

After finding out that her picture has been posted all over Kierdre, Saoirse sprints home to explain to her worried parents. They tell her that there was an incident at school with a boy bullying Rain and saying their family is cursed because Saoirse and Rain are both ikatus. Oh no, he didn’t!

Later that night, Saoirse struggles to sleep and heads out to clear her head. She is caught in the rain and the water persuades her to kill Trellis Ruster.

Saoirse goes to the Haraya and watches the sentencing of a human who used lairic beads. Outside, her blackmailer finds her and she tells him that Szeiryna is outside the barrier and the barrier can be broken if the Royals die.

There is a meeting to decide the next Enforcer of Serington and they vote for Carrick.

We end the section off with Saoirse criticising Hayes for having no idea what is going on in his kingdom.

Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered?
Do you think the barrier will be broken?

Things are really heating up and I’m worried for Saoirse! I can’t wait to see what the fallout of this section is tomorrow. See you then!

Love,
India

  1. I’m really enjoying this book, I’ve never read a book featuring sirens and I’m absolutely loving it!

Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered?

Yeah I think she will be, I’m not sure how but I definitely think all the secrets will catch up to her, and I’m struggling to see a way for Hayes to forgive her once he finds out.

Do you think the barrier will be broken?

Ooh I’m not sure, I think there will definitely be an attempt since Saoirse has given over the information. I’m thinking maybe the King will die and Hayes could then have the power to take it down himself? Just trying to find a way for him not to die as I really like him!!

    I’ve entered the giveaway on @readbyannie_ ?

  2. Oh I’m loving this book I already know it’s going to be a 5 stars read!
I love me a dark & twisted main character and Saoirse has exceeded expectations.

“Is this an order, Your Highness?” ?

  3. If Saiorse isnt careful she is definitely going to get caught and at the moment she isnt being careful so im definitely worried for her. I wonder what the Prince will do if she is caught because he seems kind of enamoured by her.

There will 100% be an attempt to take down the barrier and with the way things are looking at the moment (the king being horrible and treating most of his subjects horribly as well as the prince having no clue about the goings ons in his country they may even be successful. I think that would be cool though because maybe Saiorse can find other sirens so she will no longer be alone.

Ive entered the giveaway on @sweet__chaos_

  4. Perpetually late to the party, but…

    *I’ve already posted my #FairySingSleep photo under @TupaKitty_Reads ????*

  5. Oh no I feel like this book is going to hurt me…Hayes is just too kind and Saoirse makes bad decisions.

    1) Aaaabsolutely. Her anger and her lack of control are totally going to get her caught.

    2) Maybe not broken but at least attacked.

I’ll be entering the contest as @sonata_ix.

  6. I’m really loving this book so far! I’ve entered the giveaway @vasundharajayender

  7. Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered? I really hope not but it’s a possibility if she isn’t more cautious. Killing Trellis was sloppy.

Do you think the barrier will be broken? The Raze are definitely going to try to break the barrier. However, we shall see if they succeed.

    1. Oops, not the raze. The Resistance.

  8. The Sirens initially having a place in the boundary that they lost is very intriguing; this, to me, suggests that many more could have survived and they could be out for vengeance. Maybe they are working with the resistance to bring the barrier down. It will be much harder to do than just taking all three royals out. The king and queen potentially, but not the prince. He seems like he is working things behind the scene, knows more than we know I think.

I wonder if she will make it out undetected but if whatever is going on with Rain will come to light (probably in a crazy cliff hanger at the end of the book).

    I posted my picture @read.ingbee

  9. Saoirse will be discovered at some stage surely, and will create tension between her and Hayes…all in the nature of romance ?
I don’t particularly want the royal family to be killed but I suspect that the King/Queen may end up dead at the end of the book and Hayes is the new monarch, but they will be able to keep him alive and bring the barrier down?

Joining the giveaway – my insta is @mirlyah.

  10. 1) I think she probably will be – it would only make sense for her secrets to catch up with her.
    2) If the barrier is broken, I think it will somehow be done without killing Hayes, at a minimum.

    Hoping to enter soon!

  11. Wow day 3 of the readalong already well what can I say I am loving this book so far think this could be a 5 star far me you Jo when it’s a 5 ster coz you just don’t want too put it down and you think about the story all day yes I do think saiorse will get found out because she’s not very careful but qhat I want too no is if she gets found out will the prince turn his back or stand by her he seems besotted with her
I have entered the giveaway on
    @Relax_with_a_good_book

  12. 1) Yes, she has to be. She’s making so many mistakes and rash decisions that it’s not a matter of if but of when at this point. I’m just curious how it’ll happen. Also, the fact that they think Rain’s an ikatus just makes me believe more strongly that she’s human.

    2) Since this is being marketed as a duology, yes, I think the barrier will break at the end of this book. The king will probably die, maybe the queen as well. It has to be weak enough to break without Hayes dying, is what I’m getting at.

  13. So we know why the King particularly hates Sirens as his firstborn son was killed by one and their was a whole region of sirens Szeiryna the king raised to the ground and then expelled it from the kingdom moving the barrier so it is now outside the magical border, could Saoirse find other siren beyond the barrier. This explains the hatred fear of sirens but not why the king wanted all beings other than the Fae Witches and humans removed from the kingdom in the first place.

It seems Saoirse has unknowingly been drawn into a plot to bring to light the kingdom hidden past and bring down the king and the magical barrier. I think she would have done it willingly had she known.

Now that her true face has been revealed Saoirse is going to have to be very careful not to be discovered she is head of the prince’s investigation time so can try to steer things away from her.

The prince genuinely like Saoirse so he is going to be devastated if he finds out but he also is oblivious to what is going on in the kingdom and as he discovers more would want to see things changed and be a better King then his father is.

The resistance are I am sure will try to destroy the barrier and want Saoirse to be involved I hope they don’t want her to do that by killing the prince though I don’t think she could as she is starting to see him in a different light.

I will Eve entering the giveaway my instagram name is Booklovingdragon

  14. 1) Oh yeah. Lol. Saoirse’s lull to kill is getting stronger with each kill and she is getting reckless with the kill of Trellis Ruster. She is bound to get discovered; I’m just not sure how.

    2) I don’t think the barrier will be broken. I believe this book is part of a series? If so, I can see it being broken eventually, but not within this book. The relationship between Saoirse and Hayes is getting stronger, obsessive almost. At the very least, Hayes will live and the barrier will not be broken… for now.

P.S. I will enter the giveaway soon. Thank you for the chance!

  15. Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered?
I do think she will be discovered. Honestly I think she is getting too confident and isn’t being cautious enough with her siren form. Her revealing herself to kill the father of the family that bullied her was unneeded and very risky.

Do you think the barrier will be broken?
I think it will be but I’m not fully sure how it will be broken. Overall, I think it may not be the end of the world though if it is broken.

    1. I am really bad at saying that I will be entering the photo challenge. I honestly think I forget to say I am entering in the original post every month. My username is @mangapenguin on Instagram. Thank you!!

  16. There is no way Saoirse isnt discovered by the end of the book! Like how could she not be. There are just too many hainline fractures appearing in her coverups. Also she might have to go to the ship and save Hayes during his birthday cruise.

For the barrier to be destroyed all of the Royals would have to die. I think its safe to say Hayes has love interest armor, but who knows. Maybe he will be wounded and that will be enough to dissolve the barrier or he can drop it himself after his parents are gone.

    Entered on insta @ramble_reads

  17. Entered at @hayleys.reads ?

  18. 1) I think Saoirse will definitely be discovered, the only question is when and how, and I just know the Prince’s heart will be broken when he will learn that Saoirse killed his brother and best friend.
    2) Honestly I don’t think the barrier will be broken. In order to do so all the Royal family must die, and while I think the King will die by the end, I don’t think we will have to say goodbye to the Prince.

  19. I think Saoirse will definitely be discovered eventually and I hope once Hayes finds out he understands and forgives her.

I think there will also be an attempt to take down the barrier by the resistance but hopefully it won’t be successful because I’m loving Hayes too much to watch him die.

I entered the giveaway at _keirarobertson_

  20. I know for a fact that this book is going to break me. I’m too attached to Saoirse and Hayes and I want them to be together. But I don’t see it happening.

Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered? Yes, I do. I think she is losing control and gives in to her siren side.
Do you think the barrier will be broken? There will definitely be an attempt. But all three royals have to die. I don’t think they’ll fully break the barrier. But I think Hayes’ parents will be killed.

I will enter the giveaway on @stardancer2014

  21. I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I do!! I kinda like that our main character is a bit morally grey 😉 but yes I am a little worried for her!

I do think the barrier will be broken, but I don’t know the how and what yet…

I’ve entered the giveaway ? my IG handle is @feedmefairytales

  22. Saoirse’s actions will eventually catch up with her, and she will be recognized and discovered.

The barrier will be broken or weakened now that the blackmailer knows how.

    My instagram handle: @sophiaheartsbooks ?

  23. Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered? I think so, but I think it’ll be the prince who discovers her and he might go a bit easier on her

Do you think the barrier will be broken? I think the Raze wi definitely try and maybe kill the King but I think Hayes will survive and end up not having his life tied to it

    1. Forgot to say I entered the giveaway on Instagram @mybookishbeing

  24. Do you think Saoirse is going to be discovered?

Yes, I don’t think there’s anyway she can carry on getting away with it! I’m really worried she’s going to start making mistakes because she’s so torn between everything that’s going on!

Do you think the barrier will be broken?

I’m not sure! On one hand, I want it to be so that other creatures can be involved in the kingdom and Saoirse has a chance to find other sirens, but on the other hand I don’t want Hayes to have to die for that to happen!

I have entered the giveaway and my Instagram is @amzie.reads

  25. I have entered the giveaway. My username is nevertoomanybooks2020 ✨️

  26. I think Hayes will probably end up discovering Saoirse. But would he do anything about it? I can’t help but think yes because she did kill his best friend. I don’t think I could ever get over that and I don’t see how he could. But what if…he is a siren himself!?

The mystery is done so well in the story so far. I keep having suspicions about who the blackmailer is but I change my mind all the time whenever we get a new piece of info ? I wonder if Carrick is the one behind it all. He seems to have a lot to gain…

I think the barrier will be broken but idk if it’ll happen in this book. There’s lots of set up for it to happen in the sequel.

I also entered the giveaway! My ig is @vivis.readingpages

  27. I do think Saoirse will be found out eventually. Maybe for a cliffhanger ending.

In this section I was beginning to think Carrick is part of the resistance and maybe even the blackmailer. He knows Saoirse well. He could have left the note on Rain when they were together at the graduation thing. As a half human who’s mother was executed he should want to rebel. Maybe this whole thing has been about getting Carrick into the enforcers job so he is on the inside of the castle for a future rebellion.
