Hey fairies!
Welcome back to day 4 of our readalong of Sing Me To Sleep by Gabi Burton! Things are getting tense, and with two sections to go I have a feeling these chapters will be full of drama!
Today weβre reading from Chapter 30 to the end of Chapter 40.
Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Sing Me To Sleep by Gabi Burton, from chapters 30 to 40. Please only read on if youβve finished this section!
-!SPOILERS!-
Saoirse receives another letter asking her to find out what she can about Szeiryna in the palace library. They’ve also returned the original blackmail money… Not sure what to think of that!
Saoirse scours the library for information on Szeiryna. Hayes finds her and they argue about how he doesnβt stand up to his father or try to effect change.
Hayes brings up Reyshka Harker as a warning, the story goes that she tried again and again to get through the barrier and eventually the barrier consumed her. But really she found out about Szeiryna and the King had her killed!
Hayes had the price of flour, wheat, and other crops that were too low, raised. I actually love him, though.
Saoirse agrees to stop searching if Hayes allows her to search his fatherβs office after his party.
Saoirse patrols the beach during Hayes rehearsal party and tries to ignore the sea calling her to sing, lure, kill. Suddenly the waves pick up and one reaches over the boat and grabs Hayes, dragging him below the water. Noooo!
Saoirse jumps in after him and fights the urge to kill, pulling him away from the water fae that is dragging him down and pushing him to shore using the water. She exits the water and dries herself before anyone can see she was in the sea.
Saoirse suspects Jeune as she is a water fae, was patrolling the beach and didnβt do anything to save him. Jeune escorts Saoirse to see Hayes and he clears the room to speak to her privately. Saoirse explains how the waves grabbed him and Hayes summons all his guards to his room to announce that Saoirse has been promoted to senior guard and is now the only one allowed in his presence alone as she is the only one he trusts. That’s not going to go down well!
Saoirse and Hayes talk alone again and she realises that all of her kills have been people involved with Hayesβs party. They realise that the attempt on his life was staged so that someone could save him and, therefore, be trusted.
Saoirse decides she will be on the boat for the party to protect Hayes. I’m concerned…
She tries to build up her tolerance to the water by running alongside it but ends up passing out. Smooth.
When she wakes up, she’s in her room and Carrick is there to visit her (which, FYI Hayes is clearly not too happy about).
When Hayes ushers her parents in, Saoirse immediately attacks them with glares when she sees Rain. Rain notices and finally stands up to Saoirse, saying she hates how Saoirse thinks of her as a βruntβ to be taken care of and doesnβt even allow her to make friends.
Later Saoirse receives a letter from her Employer with a location but when she arrives there she is ambushed by 4 hooded figures. They reveal that they are the Raze… So who’s employing her?
To try to get her to talk they plunge her head in a trough of water (lol good one guys). When they release her she sings and ends up making them all stab each other.
When she returns to her room, Hayes is waiting for her. She tries to resist him but he pulls her in and holds her as she sobs, carrying her to the bed where she falls asleep in his arms. Cute!
When she wakes up, he gives a beautiful speech about how he cares for her and all the things he knows about her but she doesnβt allow herself to give in and asks him to leave, realising sheβs not scared of him hurting her but the other way around.
Returning to her room later, Saoirse notices that the door has been unlocked but she canβt see anything amiss.
She visits her aunts and they provide her with a dress for the party as well as a poison that will dull her abilities so she can get through it but could be extremely dangerous if she takes more than half a drop.
Before the party starts, Saoirse and Hayes are alone in his office below deck. He tells her how beautiful she is and his proximity mixed with the water brings the Siren Song screaming back. Saoirse huddles over and takes a small drop of the xaladran and the siren song stops, she feels at peace. She pens a quick note and shoves it down her dress before they go upstairs to the party.
Upstairs, Hayes tells her that he wants her for his birthday: all of her or as much as she can give him. Suddenly she tastes revulsion and realises that her true form has been revealed. Noooo!
Hayes steps back and has the guards arrest her.
Who do you think is her Employer if it’s not the Raze?
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her?
Do you have any theories for the final section?
That was such an eventful read! I’m so scared for the conclusion but I also need to know what’s going to happen to these characters!
See you tomorrow for the finale!
Love,
India

I think her employer could be someone in the resistance however they do not know she is a siren.
I dont believe hayes will be able to forgive saiorse because she has lied too much to him. I dont think it matters that he was once enamoured by her as he will probs see it as a massive betrayal.
For the ending all i can say is that she probably wont die, or i hope sje wont die. Otherwise i have no idea what will happen next.
Who do you think is her Employer if itβs not the Raze? I’m not too sure. At this point it can still potentially be anyone.
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her? I’m also not sure. As states above, Saoirse has lied so much. I’m not sure Hayes will understand why she has done what she has done and lied so much.
Do you have any theories for the final section? I still feel like the resistance is going to try and take down the barrier. I believe if not all 3 of the royals at least someone is going to get hurt or possible die.
Omg that was just the best! Iβm terrified and excited to see what happens next!
β is that an order, Hayes?β
? I love it so much!
Oh no don’t finish there!! I swear all of the readalongs day 4 ends with a cliffhanger chapter!
I don’t know if Jeune is a red herring or involved, but I am suspicious of L’aael as well. Jeune would make sense given she tried to steal the candle, so she knows about it as a method of communication for her, but I’m inclined to think that L’aael is more likely because of her witch status. Intriguing.
Hayes will forgive Saoirse but it’ll take a little while for him to allow her to explain herself.
As for the last section? Guess we find out who is in on this little situation with Hayes’ party I suppose. Maybe it’s even his father…
1) I have absolutely no idea who her Employer is lol I think it is someone or people, who align with the Resistance, but want to expedite the goal of taking the barrier down in a more drastic, violent way, i.e. killing the Royals as quickly as possible. Like he/she/they are a group within the Resistance.
2) I do. I think Hayes will forgive her, because he understands that what his father did was cruel and she had to do what she is doing in order to simply live. He wants a better future for his kingdom. He will forgive, but never forget.
3) My theory is that all will be revealed including what Rain is, the king will be murdered, and Hayes will assume the throne. But I have no idea what will happen to Saoirse. I really hope nothing bad.
1) I think it’s someone who knows her or her real parents. The way they sent her to see what enforcers are like makes it sound like they’re trying to open her eyes.
2) Yeah dude is so sort for her.
3) I think it’s going to huuuurt.
I have a sinking feeling Carrick is the employer and blackmailerβ¦.he was with Rain in the stands to have easy access to her bag. He knew Saoirse would sneak out of the barracks, he was the best in his class. I bet he could follow her at some point. He has plenty of motive to try and take the royals down after what they did to his mother. Also the human servants have access all over the castle, one of them could be helping Carrick to get those letters into her room. Maybe they got him a copy of Hayes seal. Totally guessing here though!!
I honestly hope that Hayes wont forgive Saoirse, she needs to earn that. As she herself has pointed out ignorance is no excuse for your actions or lack of them. She killed because she wanted to, regardless of anything else. Just because she is seeing the consequences now does not absolve her of those acts.
I think Saoirse will save Hayes from the blackmailer but not his parents. Her powers are limited so whatever happens she is at a larger disadvantage than normal. Which is to say most likely an even fight since she is so much more powerful than fae. It will be tense no matter what happens!
1) The Resistance would be the more obvious answer. (In fact, considering that the Raze consists of rich fae, it never made sense for it to be them.) On the other hand, the Resistance has (supposedly) never been this organised. It’s obviously not a coincidence that the royal guards all had casualties, which were probably replaced with spies. Rain also only got the letter *after* Saoirse won the tournament, right? The goal was clearly to force Saoirse into infiltrating the castle. As it stands, it can’t be Jeune blackmailing her, I don’t think. And she does seem to care for Hayes, so I hesitate to say she’s in the Resistance.
2) Well, this is a YA fantasy, so yes. Why or how, I don’t know. I don’t care how hot someone is if they killed my best friend. ?
3) Well, the blackmailer and the employer (if they’re not the same person) will make their move. Saoirse will try to keep Hayes safe. The king might die, therefore weakening the barrier. Since Rain has always been Saoirse’s motivator, I expect she’ll have a role to play too. Probably being rescued, I expect. It’d be a way for the blackmailer to force Saoirse’s hand for sure. That’s all I have for now!
Another letter from her blackmailing returning her money thatβs not good and wanting her to find out more about Szeiryna
Jeune continues to try and forge a friendship with but Saoirse push her away still suspicious that Jeune is her blackmailer and a member of the resistance. I still really hope that Jeune desire to be a friend is genuine.
I like how Saoirse can taste peopleβs feelings .
Saoirse looks for more info on Szeiryna in the Library and Hayes come to find her. He tried to warn her against looking into it as he fears if her father found out he would kill her.
Saoirse is having a positive influence on the Prince he went to s sentencing and had raised the price of crops he is no longer just the partying Prince
as a result of saving him the Prince from drowning which is sure to deepen his feelings for her he know feels that Saoirse is the only one he can trust and makes her his senior guard and the only one he will be alone with.
Who has been manipulated Saoirse she has not been working for the raze as she though and as all her assassins jobs have been contacted to the Royals and particularly Princes Party has she been the puppet of the resistance all this time and they plan to take out all the royals when they are together on the boat.
Oh no her true face had been revealed and so publicly well we did think that was going to happen. The Prince has no choice but to have her arrested.
He must feel so betrayed he cared for and trusted Saoirse. If she could explain that she had been an unwilling pawn in someone elseβs scheme he might eventually be able to forgive her.
What was in the note Saoirse passed to Hayes could it be her saving grace.
An attempt is going to be made on the royals and the barrier will come down hopefully it is through the death of one of Hayes parents and Hayes can become king and even if Saoirse and he are not reconciled at the end of this novel I think they will be eventually and Hayes will want to be a vey different King so open to listening to the resistance and bring to light all the things his father wanted hidden. to Hayes could it be her saving.
Again With the barrier down and in and all that follows the death of the royals Saoirse will be able to get away and not be imprisoned
Then in the sequel as Hayes reforms the Kingdom Saoirse will be able to go in search of other sirens and the other magical beings who where where able to escape the kingβs slaughter before the barrier went up.
Who do you think is her Employer if itβs not the Raze?
I think the employer has been Hayes. I think he knew who she was and tested her to see if she would commit treason. He is a collector of different creatures his dad dislikes so I think he was going to add Saorise but she as not trusted.
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her?
I donβt think so. When you find out someone was plotting to kill you and your family itβs a little unforgivable.
Do you have any theories for the final section?
I think she will be released but something will happen to the royal family to make that happen.
1) Well I think that considering what happened so far is safe to say that her Employer is someone from the Resistance, but if I have to pinpoint one character in particular I’m totally in the dark.
2) Well it’s hard to say, Hayes has very strong principles, but Saoirse’s condition is not easy to handle… So maybe if she explains he could understand her reasons but I don’t think he will want to start a romantic relationship anymore.
3) I just think that the King will die, and that somehow Saoirse will manage to save her skin, but other than that I’m completely clueless.
I think that her employer could be from the resistance but then why would someone from the same group be blackmailing her the whole time?
As much as I want Hayes to forgive I donβt see how he can because she has betrayed him so much within their time knowing each other.
I donβt have many theories for how this will end but I do think that Saoirse will be released eventually and hopefully Hayes at least starts to forgive her?
Who do you think is her Employer if itβs not the Raze? I am still thinking itβs Carrick. Itβs always someone who they donβt suspect.
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her? No. I think she lied too much. But, I also felt that Hayes had this instant affection with her. So maybe? But, if I were Hayes, I wouldnβt.
Do you have any theories for the final section? I think the blackmailer will show himself and the wall will weaken. I think thereβs a book 2, so maybe book 2 will focus on the rebuilding of the kingdom after everything falls apart in this last section. Knowing my luck, the book is gonna end on a cliffhanger. And the sequel isnβt due until sometime in 2024. Iβm definitely hooked on this book.
Who do you think is her Employer if itβs not the Raze? Maybe one of the Royal guards? Otherwise I have no idea
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her? I think he will with time
Do you have any theories for the final section? I think weβll finally get to know what Rain is and the king and queen will probably get murdered and maybe the barrier gets torn down
Who do you think is her Employer if itβs not the Raze?
Maybe the Resistance or maybe itβs linked to the blackmailer?
Do you think Hayes will be able to forgive her?
I think he would if he hears her out!
Do you have any theories for the final section?
I hope we find out who is sending the silver letters and who is really her Employer but thereβs not many pages left now! ?
Saoirse’s Employer is definitely someone she knows that she has seen in the Palace.
Hayes will definitely forgive her – he loves her! β€οΈ
Hopefully they will team up and take down whoever is blackmailing her.
I’m a little confused about Saoirse’s true face being revealed… did it happen because of the potion or did she let it happen deliberately l? If it was because of the potion then I guess the Aunties made it happen… does that mean they are part of the resistance?
And is the resistance Saoirse’s employer?
I still think Carrick should be in the resistance after what happened to his mother and he certainly is most likely to have passed the first note.
What is on the piece of paper she shoved down her top?
