Today we’ll be reading from chapter 16 to the end of chapter 19, let’s go!
Please be warned, the following section will include spoilers for Sword Catcher, from chapters 16 to the end of 19. Please only read on if you’ve finished this section!

Why has Conor still not told Kel how he paid off Prosper Beck?
For the dinner with Malgasy and Sarthe why is everything in Malgasy colours is that not offensive?
This whole dinner is very amusing from the way the Malgasy ambassador speaks about Conor and their princess whilst Kel and the Sarthe ambassador talk about horses.
The black carriage from the tale of the Kang family daughter killing the Nam’s is definitely Ji-An right?
Conor confronting the Malgasy ambassador about the Ashkar I love it but they the way Fausten and the ambassador talk I don’t like it.
Sorrryyy Conor is supposed to marry Princess Elsabet as it is written in the stars, I sense some lies.
Conor is already engaged to the Sarthe Princess, I did not see this coming.
Fasuten has been lying to the King this whole time I am not surprised he seemed very untruthworthy.
I want to know what happened to the King when he was fostered in Malgasy.
Kel has come to get Lin to heal Conor, I can’t believe his own father ordered him to be whipped, especially as it has never happened before.
I love that the Queen trusts Lin more as she had to work harder than her male counterparts ot get to where she is.
Conor wants to remain angry but at who his father?
Lin has tried to use the Source-Stone to heal Conor scars, but if she is found out then she will be killed.
Prosper Beck has been blackmailing Conor to do things, that is not good at all especially as it would never end.
I find the Queen such a peculiar character she treats Kel like he is not there but has respect for Lin.
Conor has no wounds at all like he was never whipped, the Source-Stone worked but I think it worked too well.
Lin might end in trouble.
Conor’s betrothed is arriving I am super excited to see what she is like!
Kel asked Conor about him getting his own room, but Conor says no. That is so funny he is definitely likes having Kel around.
Everyone is out waiting for the princess to arrive but some people are angry about it, I fear this will not bode well for the future I think.
Antonetta has changed from her usual clothes and has arrived without her mother I love this for her!
Kel, Conor and Lin have decided to hide the speed healing.
The Princess of Sarthe is not the one from the photos but her younger sister, I am shocked.
At least Conor was nice to the Princess before confronting the ambassador about the switch of Princess’.
The Ragpicker King wanted to speak to Kel bad enough he brought his own carriage, Kel told him all he needs to know and has cut connection. But will he still go speak to Fausten.
I knew Ji-An was in fact part of the Kang family and killed a noble house.
I wonder why the Source-Stone worked on Conor and Kel but not Mariam, is she not going to be healed?
Lin is working at the Black Mansion, so she does work for the Ragpicker King.
Someone else is looking for Qasmuna’s books I hope they don’t get their first
The Roverge ships are going to be blown up, I do love some drama.
Kel is helping out Princess Luisa which is very sweet of him.
Not Kel pretending to be Conor so he can get into the Trick and speak to Fausten.
The King himself had mentioned a danger coming to Castellane, it is the another country or magic I wonder. Someone whispered into the ear of the King, I wonder what sort of trouble he got himself into.
It is written in the stars that Kel with betray Conor as he will have something he wants. Please don’t let this be true.
The end of that section is just like shocking, lets hope it’s not true.

You asked if the Ragpicker king was the bad guy. Clearly not, the real bad guy is the King. I swear I almost threw up when I read what he ordered to do to his own son.
I knew Conor did something stupid to pay his debts.
The scene where Lin heals him was beautiful and I knew she would succeed at using the stone (even if unconsciously). I definitely want to see more of them.
Sarthe’s betrayal was unexpected (but also a relief, I was afraid Conor would actually end up getting married). I feel bad for Luisa.
I wonder if Fausten is telling the truth about Kel betraying Conor.
Things are getting even more interesting. Can’t wait to see what will happen next.

Mmmmmm yes I think Lin is a good person. That kind of power can change people though!
No I don’t think he will. He’s cunning, he’ll find an alternative option. I also think he’s too good to do that to a child.. or at least he’ll wait until she’s an adult 😭
Nah I think he’ll do sneaky things but ultimately he clearly loves Conor.
There is still so much unknown about the workings of the Source-Stone that I can’t guess what all Lin will use it for. She will have good intentions whatever it is though, I’m sure.
It will be interesting to see if the marriage is just accepted or if plots will be devised to circumvent the treaty somehow.
I believe circumstances may change in a way that might force Kel to make a decision that might be construed as him betraying Conor, but I don’t think in his heart of hearts he’ll ever betray Conor. Not with the current knowledge we have of their relationship.
Yeh I can’t imagine Kel actively betraying Conor!

So many things happened again it’s crazy. I hate the King, he was just so distant and didn’t care about anything important at all and then suddenly he appears at the meeting, is betrayed by Fausten, doesn’t like what Conor has done and then thinks it’s ok to whip Conor? That was so horrible, I hate him.
I think that Lin will do good with her Source-Stone. It will take some time for her to grasp everything the Source-Stone can do but I’m sure she will not become corrupted or power-hungry. She has worked hard to get where she currently is and I believe she’ll only use it for the greater good. I truly hope she will be able to heal Mariam one way or the other, she is such a sweet character.
I don’t think Conor will actually get married to the younger princess, there will probably be so many things happening and he will get out of it somehow. I still ship him and Lin. I have no idea how he’ll get out of the marriage but I’m sure it will happen somehow. It is so not fair for Luisa either. It was so sweet of Kel to go talk to her, he is such a good character.
I still don’t think Kel will betray Conor. He may do some things that Conor will not approve of but I do believe that their friendship and the bond they have is strong enough. I hope in the end that Kel will be free of his duties in the sense that he may have a life of his own as well but that they continue to be the best of friends.

I really hope that Kel does not betray Conor. If he does, I think it would be an unintentional situation.
I think Lin is going to have her work cut out for her to learn more about the source stone but that it will be ultimately really important and worthwhile.

I think Lin will do good with her source-stone. She is a physician, so she always puts others health first. So far, all her actions have been for Miriam or her patients. She innately wants to help others and she hasn’t tried to abuse the potential power the stone has thus far. She will use it for good, not evil.
Lord, I hope not. That poor princess. She’s too young. If they do end up getting married, it is for the good of their countries since the pact has been made with the dowry.
Again, Lord, I hope not. They are growing apart, so it may come a time where their relationship goes through a betrayal. I mean, didn’t Conor technically betray Kel with his secrecy with his debt and how it was paid? Kel learned of them on his own, not from Conor. So if Kel does betray Conor, it should balance out? Either way, if there is a future betrayal, I hope their relationship is strong enough to overcome it. Royal life seems so secluded; Kel and Conor need each other!

I think Lin has only the best intentions in mind with the Source-Stone, she already used it twice to heal. I’m more concerned about the fact that its magic seems to have faded after she completely healed Conor. It reminds me of a passage earlier in the book, where Lin read that a Source-Stone can be filled with either its owner’s magical energy, a magical creature’s or another magic-user’s blood. It makes me wonder how far Lin would go to heal Mariam, and where she might find such a source of magical energy.
I don’t think the wedding will go through; they’ll either completely break it off, or maybe Luisa will remain in Castellane as some sort of ward, the same way Markus was held at the Malgasy court. I adore Luisa, she’s such a cute character, I hope she won’t be just a pawn in the political machinations of Castellane.
That last scene with Kel and Fausten really made me wonder if the whole talk about stars is just nonsense or an actual warning, and if the Malgasy queen was interested in Aurelian blood only for political gain, or something more.
I don’t see Kel ever betraying Conor, but maybe Kel will do something that will be perceived as betrayal by Conor (like Kel’s connection to the Ragpicker King), that will severely affect their relationship.
These chapters were quite intense!
Does anyone think want Kel wants that Conor has will be Antonetta? I really do hope Kel doesn’t betray Conor.
I think Lin has good intentions with the source stone. However I think her obsession with healing her Mariam may lead her to do something bad.
I worry Conor may have to go through with the wedding even if in name only to prevent a war.

I can’t stop reading! I want to get to the end so bad I have so many theories (all probably wrong) about where the story might end and how it might lead into the sequel. I love a lot of the characters – usually, I hate long books but it’s been so fast-paced and intriguing so far.
I think Lin will do good with the source stone. I think she will only use it for healing and she especially wants to use it to heal Mariam, which I really hope she does.
I think there will end up being a scandal as to why Conor can’t marry Luisa. I think this might end up having something to do with prosper Beck ( why didn’t he tell kel that he’d paid the money?)
I don’t think Kel will betray Conor. He clearly thinks a lot about him. I think there is some information we are missing at the moment that will link everyone together. I’m getting shady vibes from Antonetta – maybe she will betray them because why has prosper asked Kel to get the locket?

Yes! However, I don’t think she’ll figure out the source stone in time to save her friend. I think she’s going to have to go on a long journey to figure it out.
Will Conor actually get married to the younger princess?
I don’t think so. I think a war will happen between the two countries. And I hope he doesn’t either! I’m still rooting for Conor and Lin.

I do not think Kel will betray Conor in the literal sense. But perhaps, something will happen to make it seem like Kel has betrayed him. And it won’t be realized the Kel was doing good for Conor until later on in the story.

So finally the King appears and takes such a horrible act on Connor… seriously, lashing? The man is cruel!
Lin’s being able to heal Connor by using the stone, without really knowing how it works it’s frustrating for her and for us xD
Does the stone have some kind of free will? Because Lin doesn’t choose when to use it since it hasn’t worked for Mariam, but she also doesn’t consciously charge the stone… and the dreams? Those are also very ominous.
Poor child princess, I really hope Connor doesn’t marry her and that something is arranged.
Really didn’t like Fausten’s prophecy about Kel betraying Connor. I really hope it doesn’t happen, but with this being a trilogy now I’m scared!
